Dating can be intimidating enough but add to that the pressure of being the new “fresh meat” on campus and you can end up being the little fish in a shark tank. It doesn’t have to be that way though, here are seven easy tips to keep you from being a good story to the boys.
1. If he invites you to a party, it is NOT a date. There’s nothing wrong with partying with your crush but it’s impossible to get to know someone with Kreayshawn blasting from the speakers. If you party all Saturday night, meet at the Cheese Shop on Sunday for lunch. This lets him know that you’re more than a good time girl.
2. Limit your drinks.
Anyone looks good after your fourth or fifth so know your limit and don’t pass it. One bad night can be the start of reputation that you’ll spend all of freshmen year trying to get rid of.
3. 3 date rule
Hooking up, however you define it, should not be an immediate thing. Chances are if you hooked up with your crush at the frats you’ve been put in the “good-time” category. Your rule may not be three dates, but whatever it is stick to it, no matter what.
4. The “Friend Zone” is not permanent.
I don’t know who came up with this myth but it is just that, a myth. The friend zone is not permanent and it’s almost always the best place to start if you want a truly successful relationship.
5. Space out your meetings.
No one wants another obligation so don’t make yourself one. You should be a treat, a dessert if you will. Don’t text him right after you leave him. Let him miss you before he sees you again.
6. Upperclassmen girls are your friends.
The most important thing to remember about upperclassmen guys is that they have a past and no one knows that past better than upperclassmen girls. They’re not your competition or your enemies. Get a few good upperclassmen girl friends and do a little digging. Chances are you can save yourself some time and heartbreak with just a few questions.
7. Play or get played.
Until he’s put the metaphorical ring on it you’re free so don’t act like you’re locked down. Trust me, he’s out having a good time and you should too. If you happen to run into him at a party say hello and keep it moving. If he wants you, he’ll come get you.
