Amy McDonnell is the coolest person I’ve never met.  Having already been friends with her older sister Sarah, I had heard a lot about her even before we met.  When I heard last semester that she chose BC, I mildly over-reacted with joy and excitement.  She’s hilarious, outgoing, and excited for life on the Heights (yes, even living on Newton).  If you see this L.A. native walking around campus, or getting off the Newton bus, say hello and welcome her to BC!

The Basics

Favorite Place to Eat:  Well when I visited BC my senior year, I had some awesome flatbread pizza from Hillside, but I hear I should be excited to eat in Stuart this year.

Coast to Coast
Why did you choose BC?
I originally applied to BC because I wanted to go to school on the East Coast and experience something completely new.  I finally decided on BC because I love the campus, the people, the professors, and the Jesuit ideals.  I was pretty easily sold.

What will you miss most about LA?
Toilet seat covers.

Did you bring anything for your dorm to remind you of home?
Well I have a graffiti-ed L.A. sign that will serve to remind me of my beautifully decorated city.  But then I also have the typical pictures of friends and family.

What are you most excited about living in Boston?
I’d probably have to say I’m most excited about exploring the city on the T and going to the Science Museum, which I hear is pretty cool.

Are you worried about the cold weather and snow?
Why does everyone ask this?  How bad can a few snowflakes be?  Kidding, I’m terrified.

Lakers or Celtics:
HAHA.

Senior to Freshman
Do you know of any clubs or activities you want to do this year?
I’m planning on trying out for the club volleyball team, maybe playing a little intramural soccer, and hopefully finding some sort of outdoors club.  I also want to do the service trip to the Appalachian Mountains.

What activities were you involved in during high school?
My sophomore year I helped start a club at my school called Action for the Invisibles, which raised money for the Invisible Children organization.  My senior year I was on the board of my school’s Amnesty International club.  I also played three years of varsity volleyball and two years of varsity soccer.  My secret passion in high school was being on the Science Bowl team (think Mathletes from the movie “Mean Girls,” now make it the science version…).

Do you know a lot of people at BC already (kids from high school, etc)?
I don’t think anyone from my high school even applied to BC.  But I know my sister (she’ll be a junior at BC)!  And I’ve met some of her friends along the way.  Oh, and rumor has it, a girl I went to preschool with will be in my class.  If you’re reading this… hi Gina, how have the past 13 years of your life been?
