Fall Television: Return of the Old and The Newcomers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IU chapter.

With the fading days of summer behind us, fall is in full swing. It’s a season of out with the old and in with the new. New back to school clothes, a new school year, and most importantly a return to your DVR being filled to the brim with the new seasons of all your favorite TV shows back on the air. The old favorites are back, but there are also some new shows to keep your eye on.
The Return of the Classics
    •    Gossip Girl, Monday’s 8:00 p.m., CW

When we last left our favorite Upper Eastsiders, Blair was newly engaged to her Prince Charming, while finally ending her relationship with Chuck. Serena decided to spend the summer in Los Angeles working with a film director and still having no idea her favorite cousin Charlie was actually a paid actress her aunt used to deceive the Van der Woodsen’s. Chuck and Nate decided to traverse around the glove, while Dan returns to the status of Lonely Boy. This season will sure to provide enough drama as Nate once again mixes with an older woman, Dan’s novel about life as an outsider in the Upper East Side gets published without his will by Vanessa, and Chuck falls off the wagon once again.

    •    Glee, Tuesday’s 8:00 p.m., Fox

The motley crew of McKinley High took on New York City in last year’s season finale. Rachel and Kurt made a point to see the sights even though they were suppose to be stuck in their hotel room working on songs for Nationals. Finn takes Rachel on a strictly professional work date which leads to something more as the end of the episode features the two kissing in the library promising to make the best of their senior year. Santana and Britney are still trying to figure out their relationship as Quinn cuts her hair to introduce a new her. With a less than stellar 12th place finish at Nationals, Mr. Scheu and Emma still present a trophy to their lovable glee club. This season is sure to bring even more chart topping hits as Sue starts her run for Congress, and Mr. Scheu begins to look for ways to get the club back on track. The theme of season 3 is back to basics with more focus on the characters and their story lines rather than tribute episodes.

The Newcomers

    •    The Lying Game, Monday’s 8:00 p.m., ABC Family

The newest show on ABC Family’s line-up is a mix between The Parent Trap and Pretty Little Liars. Sutton and Emma Mercer are biological twins who are split up at birth. Emma decides to run away to see Sutton, and Sutton gets the idea for Emma to take her place for a few days while she goes to find out what happen to their birth mother. Sutton is gone longer than expected, while Emma is forced to be a person she doesn’t even know. Secrets starts unfolding about the truth about their birth mom, secret boyfriends, and different lifestyles complicate the twins’ plan.
    •    New Girl, Tuesday’s 9:00 p.m., Fox
