Year: U0
Relationship status: In a relationship
Hometown: Scarsdale
Major: Physics
Interests: Biking, computers, science, giving strangers uncomfortable moments to laugh about later
Band: Nobody likes this question except hipsters, and nobody likes their answers…either way, here’s “some random stuff from Evan’s playlists:” Skrillex, Ludo, Kaizer’s Orchestra, Chris Botti, 5 & a dime, Da Vinci’s Notebook, (pick an embarrassing female pop star and insert her name here—it’ll be accurate), The White Stripes
Movie: The Sting
TV show: Firefly
Superpower: To be able to pause time
Greatest fear: Spiders in small boats
Disney princess: (I didn’t want to do my math homework, so I went all out here)

Snow White:
Pros: kind to those around her, the definition of innocent
Cons: gullible, greedy (magic apple), doesn’t know her prince, only got the prince because of looks
Overall: probably a nice person, but lacking maturity and her story has little to do with anything she does other than her kindness to the dwarves being repaid.

Cinderella:
Pros: actually gets help because of her kindness to others, not just beauty
Cons: lacking confidence, but that’s not really her fault
Overall: good, but it’s really the prince who’s great because he accepts her for who she is; there’s your hero, not her.

Aurora:
Pros: not focused on beauty, good character, got to know her prince
Cons: not involved in her own story, plot points all done while she is either a baby or under a spell
Overall: nothing bad, just very little involvement in her own story

Ariel:
Pros: adventurous, thinks for herself, gets to know her prince
Cons: wants to change herself, gullible, devalues the hearts of men (thinks she can ‘make’ him love her), puts herself over others
Overall: immature and not caring enough about those around her, she’s powerful and all, but isn’t smart about using it; kind of the inverse of Cinderella, bold and takes things into her own hands, but not caring enough to make it succeed

Belle:
Pros: cares for others (sacrifices herself for father; opposite of Ariel), self empowered, courageous, obvious care for personality rather than “prince charming” looks, not seduced easily, denies the obvious choice of a strong bold man who only likes her for looks
Cons: not a lot of forethought, overly bold, and I question her ability to let others help her
Overall: perhaps too much self-pride but other than that extremely admirable

Jasmine:
Pros: not looking for somebody just for looks, bold and self-empowered, caring
Cons: same superficial flaw in reverse, she ignores Aladdin at first when he comes back as a prince simply because he’s a prince. She pretends to look past that stuff but she’s just as assuming as the others, just in a different way. Seduced by things, not the person
Overall: Disney took her in a different direction, but took it too far. She’s a hipster. She’s admirable for not falling for stupid princes, but she ignores them just for being such, which is just as unfair as ignoring peasants—the princesses have just as little choice in their social status

Pocahontas:
(The “princess” title bothers me a little, as I think it’s a bit imposing to assume European titles fit perfectly to Native American systems of rule, but I’ll let it slide).
Pros: gets to know her “prince,” self confident, good ideals, willing to risk herself for others
Cons: perhaps overconfident; thinks she always knows what is best; willing to share her ideals but not to accept European ideals (I know it sounds sick, but it’s supposed to be a two way street); does little herself, instead tries to persuade others to action (I’d pick Mulan over her in a fight).
Overall: very good, sets a good example, and cons are only minor as opposed to true character flaws

Mulan:
Pros: very empowered, focused on talent and getting things done instead of beauty and superficial things, likes her man for more than looks, he likes her for more than looks
Cons: irrational, unnecessarily risky, does little out of kindness, instead done out of a sense of “duty”
(Not really bad, but doesn’t go with the Disney theme)
Overall: probably the coolest princess, but hard to say that her choices were smart or rational. I much more admire somebody who’s bold but knows their limits rather than somebody who’s going to get themselves killed

Tiana:
Pros: has real ideals—beyond being a princess or being beautiful, kind to others, willing to take help, self empowered
Cons: reckless, little bit gullible, story doesn’t really promote much of a message other than get lucky, there are a lot of factors that make it tricky to pin down any real great morals
Overall: very good, little to complain about, but not a lot great either, doesn’t fit with the other princesses and is hard to truly admire because of her (commendable) depth.

Winner: Belle. She takes matters into her own hands, truly learns the meaning of love, and shows tremendous care for those around her. Hands down the best role model while still keeping up with Mulan for badassery
