If any of you Millersville collegiette™’s follow the fashion world, you know that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week took place in NYC a few weeks ago. You’d also know that fashion week always showcases styles from the upcoming season. Even though the majority of us didn’t have the opportunity to hit up the Lincoln Center to see the latest Jason Wu looks float down the runway, we can still take inspiration from the upcoming Spring 2012 trends… especially for our nails!
Here are some of my favorite trends from Spring 2012 Fashion Week and how to wear them now!

Chartreuse polish: This hue, which lands somewhere between yellow and green, is surprisingly neutral for such a bright color. It pairs great with fall tones, like chocolate brown or heather grey. Try Sally Hansen Insta-Dri nail color in Lickety-Split Lime (which, by the way, is my favorite line of polish… it really does dry quick!).

Nude nails: This look pops up season after season because it is such a classic. Like a little black dress for your nails, nude shades are timeless and go with everything. Nude polish also doesn’t show chips as obviously as dark or bright laquers. What’s not to love? For this look, try Essie in Like Linen.

Classic red: Like nude nails, red is a sure trend each year. Crimson shades are sexy and sophisticated. For fall, go with a darker shade, like Essie in A-List.

Ombre manicures: Ombre, when a dark shade fades into a lighter shade, is everywhere right now, from hair to clothes and even nails. While the looks seen on the runways at fashion week showcased manicures where each individual nail faded from dark to light, the easiest way to DIY this look is to paint each nail a different shade in the same color family. This can be done using five different polishes, or it can be done by putting drops of black or white into a color to make darker and lighter shades, as seen here on Lauren Conrad. This can be done is any season by changing up what color you use. A deep purple or jade color would work great right now!
