I’m not sure how many of you were standing outside Target on a hazy September morning, ready to get your favorite Missoni piece. Don’t know Missoni? If you don’t, Missoni is an Italian fashion house who is famously known for their zigzag patterns, knitwear, and bright ‘70s-inspired colors. Just recently, Missoni released an exclusive collection just for Target. It sold out almost instantly, but fortunately, I was able to grab two Missoni for Target sweaters. If you didn’t get a chance to grab your favorite Missoni piece, try these great ‘70s-inspired alternatives to fill the void.
This Pins and Needles Scallop Stripe Sweater from Urban Outfitters ($54.00) is a perfect Missoni-esque piece. With a great knit and multicolor horizontal stripe, it captures what so many people love about Missoni. Pair with denim and your favorite moccasins for the perfect campus look.
If you missed that cute dress Target was selling, this cute print dress is a perfect alternative. From Forever 21 running at $22.80, this Zig-Zag Strapless Dress comes with a white belt to add that slight ‘70s-inspired flair. Add a cute black jacket, and wear out to dinner with friends.
At $34.95, this cardigan from H&M is a perfect ‘70s inspired, lightweight knit. With a great blend of colors and textures, this cardigan is perfectly worn with your favorite denim, a casual top underneath, and great leather accents. My favorite feature: elbow pads!
This oversized Striped T-Shirt from Zara ($49.40) is a great piece to be worked on those casual days on campus. With a ‘70s color palette and a great mix of different colors, wear with leggings like the model above, or pair with your favorite denim for a comfy yet chic ‘70s look.
Pair this great Zig-Zag top from Forever 21 ($13.80) with your favorite pair of skinnies and leather sandals for a bohemian inspired look. The great distorted pattern and an interesting color palette allows this piece to be worn day to night. Just add heels and you’re ready for a great night out!
This sweater reminds me a little of my grandfather, but I love the contrasting zigzag and horizontal lines. From Urban Outfitters, this Dolce Vita Calvin Wrap Cardigan Sweater runs at a steep $189, but is perfect for those chilly days on campus.
Perfect for if you work in an office, this black demitasse print jersey sheath dress by Donna Morgan cost $89 on Bluefly. Running originally at $127, this great print dress gives you a bit of coverage with ¾ length sleeves for the fall season.
These Staring at Stars Zig-Zag Legging from Urban Outfitters ($39.00) might not be for everyone, but they add the perfect ‘70s touch in an unexpected place. It comes in this great red multicolor pattern, but also comes in a blue multicolor pattern as well.
This is my favorite piece this week. It reminds me a little of the Brady Bunch, but it is a great ‘70s-inspired dress for any wardrobe. From H&M, running at $59.95, the paisley pattern and fun colors add the ultimate ‘70s flair to any wardrobe.
So even if you missed out on the Missoni for Target collection, pick up these great alternatives from your local retail stores. While not exactly the same as Missoni, these pieces still add the perfect ‘70s-inspired piece that should be a staple in anyone’s wardrobe.
