The LBD (Little Black Dress) is seen on almost every must-have list – withstanding seasons, fashion trends and time. We can all thank Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s for making the LBD as timeless as it is today. After fifty years it has managed to cement itself as a part of both popular and fashion culture. For the average Georgetown girl, a LBD is a staple for transitioning between different styles, events and everything in between. All you need to accomplish this look is a little black dress to start off with, and with a few tips you’ll be able to maneuver these different looks: Classic, Casual, Girly, Edgy, and “Nighttime.”
Â
Classic
Pair your LBD with a pair of ballet flats and a printed cardigan. Throw on a pair of pearl earrings, reminiscent of Audrey’s pearl necklace, and pull your hair into a bun or neat ponytail. This look would be perfect for an interview or a lunch date.
Â
Casual
Throw on a big, comfy sweater over your dress and belt it around the middle. Finish off with comfy shoes, like moccasins or Toms. Do whatever you want with your hair and makeup, just keep it natural! Wear this to class and you’ll look fashionable but comfortable.
Girly
Match your LBD with a blazer of your choice, but roll up the sleeves to keep it from looking too business-like. Add a pair of tall riding boots and crocheted tights for a feminine, but put-together look. For jewelry wear some cute hoops and to show them off either put your hair up or into a half up half down style.Â
Â
Edgy
Pair a denim shirt with your dress to give it a tougher look. Knot the bottom of the shirt near your waist, and since it’s starting to get colder you can add a jacket. Add a pair of black leggings and thick socks to scrunch on top of a pair of motorcycle, lace-up or combat boots.
Â
“Nighttime”
This look is perfect for going out during the weekend to a party, bar, or somewhere fun in DC. Wear your dress with a pair of nude pumps closest to your skin tone. Nude pumps are known to elongate the legs, which is always a plus. Finish off the look with a leather jacket, beach waves and a pair of great earrings, and you’re good to go!
