You know that horrible feeling you get in your stomach when you are about to give your credit card to the cashier at Bloomingdales and thoughts like: “Do I really need what I am about to buy?” “Do I deserve this?” start rapidly circulating through your head? Don’t you wish that you could go shopping and not feel one ounce of hesitation when you hand the store employee your credit card and instead feel complete elation and satisfaction knowing that you are doing a good deed by shopping? If your answer is yes, which it really should be, then I have the perfect solution to help you feel guilt-free about shopping this month! This October is Breast Cancer awareness month and various companies have created limited edition products where a portion of the proceeds from the items will be donated to various breast cancer charities. I have assembled a list of a few of my favorite products that will allow you to shop for a cause!
In the fashion world, nothing is more iconic than a Ralph Lauren polo adorned with his signature pony. Naturally, when the legendary designer created a “Pink Pony” line, including the famous polo was a must. While there are many other tops, bags, and accessories in his “Pink Pony” line, where 10% of the money you spend on the items is donated to his Pink Pony Fund for cancer care and prevention, this white one with the light pink pony is by far my favorite! Pair it with jeans, black pants, or leggings.Â
Blazers are the perfect outerwear choice for fall. While this one from Forever 21 is a shade of pink that might appear to be geared more towards spring and summer, that is not the case. It is vital to add color to your outfits this season even though reaching for dark neutrals is usually the route many go once the weather gets cooler. Make sure to support a great cause and to take a fashion risk by rocking this fun blazer. Forever 21 will donate 10% from the sale of this item to the Susan G Komen foundation.Â
One of this season’s hottest nail trends is shatter nail polish that gives your nails an edgier feel. OPI has created a pink shatter color called Pink Shatter: Pink of Hearts. When applied, the color appears as a bold combination ofdark pink and black. The polish will be available at Ulta and other beauty product stores and retails for $8.95.
Stila Cosmetics has created a “Positive and Pretty Palette” that consists of 4 eyeshadows, blush, and bronzing powder. The company will donate $1 of every palette sold to The Foundation of Living Beauty, which “empower[s] women to reduce their cancer risk, and increase their self-esteem, physical wellness, and emotional stability, after coping with the taxing affects of cancer and chemotherapy.” Not only are the shades of the eyeshaddows, blush, and bronzer extremely versatile for many skin tones, but by buying the palette you are also giving cancer survivors the ability to feel good about themselves after overcoming the debilitating illness.
Waltham’s unpredictable weather makes owning a pair of chic rain boots practically essential. On any given rainy day at Brandeis, it’s a guarantee that you will see many students sporting Hunters, usually in the darker colors like black, navy, grey, and purple. Express your breast cancer support by making a colorful statement each time it rains in these Hunter limited edition pink rain boots sold exclusively at Nordstrom. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the Susan G Komen Foundation, which funds research and raises awareness about breast cancer.Â
These five products are only a few of the hundreds of items that have been designed solely for breast cancer awareness month. When you go to purchase them, I hope that you feel absolutely no buyer’s remorse. On October 12here at Brandeis, you can show your support by wearing pink on PINK DAY! So wear your pink and shop for a cure.
