The air is turning brisk; all the leaves are falling, and each day more pumpkins appear on the front steps of the neighboring houses.  Clearly, fall is here and winter is already on its way. At Colgate, when it comes to clothing, it’s most important to have a multitude of jackets. The fall season is unpredictable in upstate New York.   One day it will rain, the next it will be warm and sunny, and by the end of week it will be so cold you’ll be able to see your own breath. That being said, there are a few fall outwear must haves that should be in your closet.

Down coat: Nothing is cozier than a puffy coat.  This Marc  New York Zip Front Down Coat isn’t bulky so you can wear as  many layers as you want underneath.

Leather coat: (below) This leather jacket with faux fur lining is perfect  with a pair of jeans and Frye boots. The lining is a great layer to  keep you warm during a weekend tailgate.

Rain Jacket:
I’ve had a million dressy raincoats but what you really need is one by a brand that specializes in waterproof gear like the Minimalist Jacket by Marmot. I.e. Anything from North Face, Marmot, Henri Lloyd, and Musto are great for raingear.

Lightweight+Weatherproof: How could I exclude Barbour jackets? They are expensive but so worth it- they keep out the wind, rain, and most importantly, the cold.

Trench Coat: This trenchcoat
by BB Dakotacan be worn on the cooler fall days where you want to dress casually but still look good. Pairing a lightweight trench with leggings and a button down is a great outfit for class because it is comfortable yet chic.

Peacoat: A peacocat, like the one pictured, is the jacket to wear when transitioning from fall to winter temperatures. Peacoats are so versatile; they are casual enough to wear to class yet dressy enough to wear out to dinner on the weekend.

Bright Vests: Fall can be dreary at times; so don’t forget to add bright colors! The Excursion Quilted Vest from J.Crew is one of my fall favorites (also perfect for Case where it sometimes gets too warm for a jacket but too cold for a long-sleeve).
