We have all felt lost in the sea of neatly packaged beauty products staring back at us from row upon row of fully stocked shelves.  The endless options found in stores like Sephora and Ulta are ominously exciting.  What brand has the best mascara?  Which lipstick is worthy of a good splurge?  What lotion is most suitable for sensitive skin?  Choosing a new beauty product can, quite frankly, be scary.  Luckily, Sarah Smith, Associate Beauty Editor at Martha Stewart Weddings, has decided to share her top picks for lip gloss with BC Collegiettes™!

  1. Splurge Worthy:  Giorgio Armani Lip Gloss Luxury Lip Color ($28)
“First off, it has great colors.  With over 13 shades, it covers your sultry nudes, girl-next-door pinks, dramatic reds, and on-trend plums.  The super slick formula glides on super sheer so your lips feel silky, not tacky, and it never ‘catches’ your hair.”

  2. Best Bang for Your Buck:  Top Shop Glaze ($12)
“At $12, it rivals other drugstore brands I’ve tried.  Plus, its well-edited collection of just five great pink shades means you don’t have to spend 30 minutes warring over which one to buy– they are universally flattering!”

  3. Natural Selection:  Korres Lip Butter Glaze ($14)
“These clutch-sized shiners are free of all the bad stuff (parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, etc.), but still have a really refined formula and pretty, juicy shades.  Plus, they smell awesome!”

  4. Most Moisturizing:  Fresh Sugar Lip Gloss ($18)
“You can’t go wrong with any of this gloss’s ten shades (though Sugar Kiss is my favorite and Sugar Cherry or Sugar Rush give such a fresh-stained look for winter), but what I like most are its ingredients that leave lips really hydrated.  In the dead of winter, its jojoba, black currant, and grape seed oil– in addition to shea butter– always come to my lips’ rescue.”

  5. Lasting Color:  Nars Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil ($24)
“Gloss in a pencil form?  Shocking, I know.  But this stick stains lips with a shiny tint so the color lasts longer than your average wash of gloss.  New Lover is my everyday choice, but Baroque would be my party pick– black liner and a sweep of mascara– done!  Or, pair Hopi with a brown smoky eye and a pink-brown bronzer for a boho, beachy look.”

There you have it, straight from the expert herself!  Next time you find yourself lost in a sea of lip gloss, consider trying one of these five options.  I couldn’t resist and have already made a run to Sephora to try the Nars Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil, which truly is amazing.  Even if you don’t NEED a new gloss, treat yourself!  Fall has arrived, which is the perfect excuse to add some new products to your make-up regiment.  So grab your wallet, hit the T, and get ready to have some fun at the make-up counter!
