You know him as the friendly face at the CPB meeting or the person that sends out invites to the awesome Pub events. I have had the pleasure to work with Paul through work-study jobs, Orientation, RA, and through just being a student. I think we can all agree that Paul Stanish is definitely a huge help for students on campus, so I decided to ask him some questions about what “Bentley Spirit” means to him!

HC: What is your favorite memory of past Homecoming/Bentley Spirit celebrations?

PS:I truly enjoy the Bentley Blizzard for the men’s and women’s basketball games.  There is a special feeling when you witness 1000-1500 of our enthusiastic students rallying around a team in a championship setting.  That is something that we just don’t see enough at Bentley, so it’s fun to embrace that experience.

HC: What is your favorite part about working at Bentley?

PS:Having daily opportunities to make a positive impact on students and staff.  I sometimes underestimate how many people are pay attention to me and those in our workspace.  It’s very refreshing.  Also the people I work with are great.  We have a very caring group of individuals in the student life suite and they make it easy to come to work every day.
 
HC: Why did you choose to work at Bentley, as opposed to other schools or companies?

PS: I worked in the corporate world for 7 years and there are distinct differences.  While the compensation was good, my work life balance didn’t exist.  Working in higher education has afforded me more time to focus on my personal health, interests and hobbies.  Moreover, I am more available to my family and friends which was lacking in the corporate world.

HC: What has been your favorite experience at Bentley thus far?

PS: As a Bentley student (’96), my favorite experiences were attending all the breakfast by moonlight events each semester.  All my friends would either volunteer or arrive early to get the free t-shirts.   I was also an active member of Bentley Student Television and hosted my own television game show.  We once filled Koumantzelis for a show taping and it was incredibly awesome.  As a staff member, I truly enjoy my experiences with orientation.  I’ve been fortunate enough to work closely with the orientation leaders for 7 years.  Watching the leaders bond and create a magnificent experience for our new students is special to watch and have a hand in.

HC: What was your favorite way to show school pride when you were in college?

PS: I’m not the cheerleader type of person.  You won’t see me paint my face or even cheer for things.  However, I am proud of being a Bentley graduate and now a staff person.  As a student here, I always tried to show my spirit in different ways, primarily through clothing I wore or how I spoke/speak about the institution.  Even today, half my casual wardrobe has something with the word Bentley on it.  I also attended many events and tried to support my friends in other student organizations.  That’s how I created all my college friendships.

I really enjoyed having the chance to get to know Paul Stanish a little more, especially when it comes to showing Bentley colors!

Kathryn Burgner is a member of the class of 2013 at Bentley University and is majoring in Information Design & Corporate Communications, with minors in Marketing and Gender Studies. Kathryn is so excited to be a part of the Her Campus team and be the founder of Her Campus Bentley! Kathryn loves going to school near Boston, but she also loves her hometown of Dalton, MA, where she grew up in the Berkshires on a turkey farm. Kathryn loves singing, acting, dancing ballet, baking, & playing volleyball, and is interested in gender issues, fashion, and health & fitness. She is a founding member of the Masters of Bentley Acappella (MBAs) and enjoys being involved with the Women's Center at Bentley, Alpha Psi Omega Honorary Theatre Society, and Resident Assistance at Bentley. Kathryn aspires to work as an editor, social media professional, or marketing design professional in Boston, MA after her experiences at Bentley!
