Looking back on the fond days of my childhood, I cannot thank my parents enough for playing oldies music inthe car. At the time, it was definitely a battle.
My siblings and I would get to enjoy the latest and greatest on Z100 until a “vulgar” Eminem song came on the radio. Within seconds of his first cuss word, it was back to “Kool 96.7.” For all of you non-New Yorkers, the dreadful station was truly, everything but cool. Replete with Bubblegum Pop songs from the 60s and 70s, it would make long car-rides feel even longer. Perhaps, my ability to sleep soundly in moving cars is derived from my body’s self-protective/defensive instinct to the music. #NurtureVs.Nature.
However, for the moments I was awake to listen to “oldies,” I began to take a liking to the songs and these important music legends. It was just the other day that I was reminded of the good ole days and oldie music.Â
As I was listening to music on a blog, I was struck by a song called “A Little More Time” by Zox. It wasn’t the interesting vocal arrangement that kept me interested, but my immediate realization that it was somewhat a re-make of a song from the 70s; the original song “A Little More Time” was debuted by the soul band, Chairmen of the Board. The song brought me back to those happy days, but it did so with a fresh and unique approach. Slowing down the tempo and adding a more modern flair with new lyrics, Zox (a band of four musicians) has time-warped the song and made it accessible to the ears of 21st-century listeners.Â
If you enjoy the music of Vampire Weekend, you will definitely by a fan of Zox. Ironically, two of the band members began collaborating when they were students at Brown. Ivy League battle of the bands much? Only joking. But what I am serious about is my recommendation of this song.Â
