It’s that time of year again. We’re back on campus, going to classes, and spending endless hours in the library, which means we’re losing our tans and letting the warm weather pass us by. A change in season means a change in weather, which, as any collegiate™ knows, means a change in our beauty routines.
For some, morning routines are practically non-existent, but with these helpful tips and products, we can transition into fall looking gorgeous!
Scrubs!
I’m not talking about the TV show, but rather a facial scrub. Using a scrub on your face at least once a week is especially helpful in the cooler months to slough off dead skin cells, which, in turn, helps your moisturizer work even better!
When choosing a scrub, be sure to stay away from products that contain harsh particles like crushed nutshell or even certain fruits, which can irritate and even damage your skin. Instead, choose a product that contains synthetic beads, like Aveeno’s Skin Brightening Daily Scrub ($6.49 at Target). This will create a clean, smooth canvas for any makeup you apply.
If you’re looking to save some money, try mixing honey and sugar for a homemade facial scrub.
Moisturizers!
As the cooler, fall days are upon us, you may notice your skin drying out. Be proactive by purchasing a non-comedogenic moisturizer, which means it won’t clog your pores. Try Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer ($7.99 at Ulta). This product protects against UV rays and free radicals and comes in Normal, Sensitive, and Combination/Oily.
Where Did My Tan Go?
Once school begins, our summer tans will unfortunately begin to fade. Working inside for hours on end will make that summer glow disappear in a flash! Give pale skin a little boost by giving yourself a healthy glow with bronzer. However, don’t apply too much as you probably won’t want to look like Snooki.
Physicians Formula has a fantastic line of bronzers that fit every girl’s bronzer needs. The bronzers range from light to dark and matte to shimmery. The Powder Palette Multi-Colored Bronzer in Light is great for those with fair skin. If you are curious about their bronzers, the Physicians Formula site has a Bronzer Boutique that helps you identify which bronzer will best fit your personal needs.
New School Year, New Hair Color?
Fall is a very popular time to completely change or tweak your hair color, and if you are in the mood for a little bit of change and you don’t know what to do, this may be right for you!
If you get bored with your hair color quickly, use a dye such as Clairol Natural Instincts ($8.99 at Ulta). This dye is demi-permanent, which means that it will wash out within 28 shampoos. So if you dye your hair and are not satisfied you wont have to grow out that hair color for the rest of the year!
Chop Chop!
If you’re not up for dying your hair, try a new hairstyle by getting a fresh cut. The shaggy bob and pixie are
becoming equally popular among celebrities. If you’re apprehensive to get a major chop to your gorgeous locks, you can get long layers or add some side-swept or blunt bangs. These cuts were seen on every runway during New York Fashion Week and are sure to be a big hit on campus.
Fall Beauty Trends!
The beginning of Fall and a new school year means a fresh start. There are many new and exciting beauty trends to experiment with for your next exciting campus event, whether it’s grabbing coffee and catching up with friends, or going on a date with the cutie you met in the atrium of the Social Sciences building. Some of the trends looking hot for Fall 2011 include:
- Metallic smoky eyes
- Red lips
- Full, dramatic lashes
- Bold & graphic black eyeliner
- The “No Makeup” makeup look
These were all big on the runway during Fashion Week, so if you are up for a new look, why not try one out? I am definitely doing my best to rock full dramatic lashes and am doing so with my new CoverGirl Lash Perfection mascara. It grabs and coats every lash while also curling my lashes, without a lash curler!
Whichever products or trends you decide to try, be sure to embrace them!
