This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Jaclyn McKay is responsible for bringing She’s the First, a national not-for-profit organization that raises money for girls’ education in the developing world, to Penn State. Next month, Her Campus Penn State will be lucky enough to pair with She’s the First in a tie-dye cupcake bake off, to contribute and raise money for a truly worthwhile cause. In order to learn more about the organization on campus, we sat down for an interview with Jaclyn.

HC: How did you first hear about She’s the First?
Jaclyn: I first heard of She’s the First when it came on my Twitter feed this past summer. After following the organization, I found that it was something I would love to get involved with, and I knew other PSU students would, too.

HC: Why did you decide to start a chapter at Penn State?
Jaclyn: Penn State is a great campus for a chapter of She’s the First, because as students, we truly value our education and sincerely hope that girls around the world will have access to education. Also, Penn State students are known for their dedication and enthusiasm for helping people, so it seemed like a perfect fit.

HC: What’s your favorite aspect of the organization?
Jaclyn: I love the energy and positive attitude of She’s the First. It is so refreshing to see an organization so passionate about their mission, and I hope that the Penn State chapter can carry on this great outlook. Also, the types of fundraisers they hold are wonderful. How cool is a Tie-Dye Cupcake Bake Sale that raises money for girls around the world!?

HC: What can students expect from She’s the First in the upcoming months?
Jaclyn: This semester, She’s the First will be holding a tie-dye cupcake bake sale outside of the Family Clothesline on Nov. 4 from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Hopefully, this event will raise awareness about She’s the First throughout the Penn State community. After the bake sale, we hope to hold our first official meeting to discuss She’s the First and its mission, potential fundraisers and exciting ways to get word about She’s The First to the Penn State community.  All students are welcome to attend and join.

HC: What are your goals for this year for the organization?
Jaclyn: By the end of this school year, I hope that She’s the First will have a strong group of students, and that we will be able to raise money to send many girls to school.
