Disclaimer: Most things guys do can be completely pointless and stupid so be aware that “thinking like a guy” does not apply to all situations, and can get you into trouble in most. If you fully comprehend and understand this statement, read on!
I’m a firm believer in giving credit where credit is due so here it is: some things guys do are actually smart. I mean lets face it, without history’s male genius’s we we wouldn’t have electricity to power the TV’s that feed our Glee addiction (thanks Ben Frank!), the Mac to facebook-stalk campus cuties on (Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg) or be able to tell time without an embarrassing timex (Michael Kors)! They must be doing something right, so here’s my take on why the male mind isn’t only good for messing with ours:
1. They move on quickly
When was the last time you heard a guy complaining about how his roommate stained his favorite tank top last weekend and still hasn’t offered to replace it. Never. Even though sulking over every detail of a horrible breakup or a fight with a friend is what girls do best, it isn’t always the best thing to do. Men have a “fix it” mentality that drives them to repair the problem at hand instead of dwelling on it. Once they fix it, they move on. So take a hint from the boys, take your problem, develop a solution, implement that solution and keep moving on!
(C’mon ladies, pack up that negativity and MOVE ON!)
2. On to the next one…
The best and worst thing about boys is their ability to get over us quicker than we can tear through a pint of break-up Ben and Jerry’s. Brad Pitt already had a family before Jen could even leave the house. Men tend to get over relationships much quicker than we do so shed a few tears, but not too many! Mourning the loss of a relationship in bed while watching The Notebook and wondering where you went wrong gets in the way of you chatting with hotties at the bar! There’s no time like the present, get back out there!
3. They love the gym
I’m not sure if some of the guys at UNH are always at the gym because they actually love working out or because they don’t have a mirror in their room and like using the ones at the rec center. Regardless, they’re always there and actually seem to enjoy it. The gym is the perfect place to release stress and have endless amounts of eye candy while doing so! So, start hitting the weights, look hot for all the boys you’ll be meeting now that you’re not pouting about your ex!
(Eyes on the mirror…oh err prize)
4. They don’t even know what a diet is!
I am sometimes fascinated at the amount of food some guys can put away without feeling guilty about it. After doing a little bit of Internet research I found out why. Men don’t make the mistake of emotional eating. They listen to their bodies and eat when they’re hungry instead of giving into the candy machine when we’re stressed about school or their relationship. Women often label foods as “good” or “bad” in their minds while guys don’t. More simply put- if guys are hungry and they’ve got a taste for a giant sirloin steak or a tray of nachos, they’re going to eat them…and they won’t feel bad about it after! So ladies, stop making food “off limits” and start listening to what your body is telling you!
5. They’re selfish!
If you’ve ever been in a relationship where you felt like you were putting in way more time than he was, you were. When was the last time you blew off Friday night date night to go shopping with the girls? Or turned your phone off for a few hours while you were being pampered at the salon? Never? Not okay. Guys will never miss their weekly ritual of beer and ball with their buds or pass up a game of Madden. Don’t be such a people-pleaser you’ll probably be happier and have and a better wardrobe!
