Eating healthy at Elon has proven to be an incredibly difficult with all the late night eating and Cook Out runs with friends. I find it’s way easier at home because my mom will buy that nutritious, healthier (and therefore more expensive) food.

Snacking is one of my worst enemies and I’m sure some of y’all feel the same! But there are actually healthier options than digging into those brownies your suitemate made last night.

nstead of eating that bagel with the cream cheese piled on high, reach for a granola bar or a Nutri grain bar. These will give you the carbs and energy that you need without the excess million and a half calories.

When you are craving chocolate, steer clear from those cookies in your pantry. Choose a fiber one chocolate bar or, if your craving won’t back off, a piece or two of dark chocolate will suffice.

I love eating veggies as my snack but the second I start dipping my carrots and celery in ranch, it looses a lot of its health benefits. Try eating celery with peanut butter and carrots either alone or at least with light ranch.

Lastly, with our meal plans on campus we are always offered the option of chips or fruit… choose an apple or a banana and you’ll be feeling much healthier and have more energy for the rest of your day.

It’s not as hard to choose the healthy snacks as we think. Just pay attention to the options that you’re given and the freshmen 15 will be the last thing you need to worry about.
