You’re homecoming queen. How did that come about?
In the spring homecoming committee accepts applications for nominees and my friend who graduated, the former chair of A&O, nominated me. I thought it was kind of funny I have never done anything like this. It doesn’t really reflect my personality, but I decided to just kind of go with it because I have a lot of school spirit, I just show it in a different way. Then we had interviews and we were put on the court and there was voting last week.

What did you think when you were voted the queen?
I was really excited, really honored to have won. I wasn’t really expecting this type of thing to ever happen to me. I’m not Greek, I’m not girly, but I do a lot on campus that brings Northwestern students together and kind of just helps improve the undergraduate experience here so I was really excited that they school recognized that as a form of school spirit.

What are you involved in on campus?
I’m the co-chair of Mayfest and I’m also on the A&O exec board. Those are two of my main things that I do on campus. I’m in this really small group Undergraduate Budget Priorities Committee and we send out a survey every winter asking what students think the school should be spending it’s money one, what they think is important for their undergraduate experience. We analyze that and we take it to the administration. It’s really cool because a lot of times we actually get cool things. We got the fall concert moved to Welsh-Ryan Arena so that more students could go, we got the undergrad internship grant, the shuttle to Chicago on Saturdays, better cell service in certain buildings. I love working on that because it gets undergraduates a voice in the school budgeting process.

What is your favorite thing about Northwestern?
My unserious answer would be the buffalo chicken wrap at Norris.

But my serious answer: I am floored by what students do by themselves here. I feel like so many groups are like the biggest student-run music festival in the country or dance marathon is the most influential student run fund-raiser in the country. We do so much here that staff at other schools do. Students take ownership here of so much here.

The 10 people on the homecoming court are perfect examples of well rounded very involved students and I was very honored to be on the court with them. All of them have their special thing or things that they are committed to and it was really great to get to know them throughout the process.

So did you guys do a lot of stuff together?
We had to do a lot of awkward stuff- we had to be in a date auction and learn a dance that Fusion. It made a lot of the awkward stuff more fun by having cool people to do it with that I didn’t really know before.

Describe your perfect Northwestern Day.
A lot of people their favorite day at northwestern is Dillo Day. That is one of my favorite days as well. It’s amazing to see so many people come out for something that I have worked so hard on with 60 other people. My real favorite day is the day after Dillo Day when it’s all over. I go out to the Lakefill by myself, lie on the rocks and just relax after everything. And then dinner at Bat 17. It’s just nice to let it all kind of sink in on the Lakefill.

What’s next for you?
I don’t know yet. The only thing I do know is that in spite of the weather I really do hope to stay in Chicago. It would be really nice to stay close to campus to come back for things like homecoming, A&O concerts and Dillo Day as an alum.
