Hey everyone! Hope the weekend treated you all well. It did for me because a friend showed me Rihanna’s music video for “We Found Love” featuring a really attractive Irish man whose name happens to be, wait for it…..Dudley O’Shaughnessy. In the video Dudley O’Shaughnessy (I will be using his full name throughout this post because it is just too good) plays Rihanna’s love interest as the pair fight, do drugs, have weird music video sex, do a lot of other weird things and basically destroy each other. I thought I’d talk about some stuff I found interesting/funny/ridiculous within the video because I guess it was pretty shocking. Kinda? Check it out below.

OK, I’ll wait a few more minutes for that to sink in. You may want to give it a second watch…

So, I already mentioned Dudley O’Shaughnessy. He’s quite the looker no? Also, he brings up my first point.

  1. Dudley O’Shaughnessy made my gaydar go off. I don’t know, maybe it’s the eyes? The feminine features? The bleached hair? A combination of all three? The first time I watched “We Found Love,” I couldn’t help thinking that Rihanna was tearing up whatever town with her gay best friend. However, I seem to be wrong; apparently the two are together in real life. Rihanna, I shake your hand.
  2. Not so fast. I just realized Dudley O’Shaughnessy looks a lot like Chris Brown. Not cool.
  3. I have to admit this video made me a little uncomfortable and I think I know why. Shots such as the pupil dilating and the coursing blood stream appeared in the film Requiem For A Dream. If you have seen Requiem, then you’ll know what I’m talking about. The film centers around three heroin-addicted friends and is overall pretty horrific in its physical and psychological portrayals of addiction. “We Found Love” is kind of like Requiem light.
  4. The over-the-top symbolism for unhealthy relationships. Let’s see, shots of buildings collapsing or on fire, lightning, Rihanna passing out on the street, the pair trashing a convenience store then making out, doing drugs together in a sketchy apartment, Dudley O’Shaughnessy tattooing “mine” on Rihanna’s ass, gambling away fake money on a slot machine. I’m still not getting it. Can we roll the tapes one more time?
  5. The part when Rihanna pukes streamers. No more words are necessary.
  6. Also the rainbow colored fast burning cigarette.
  7. The hundred or so death stares the pair shoots at each other. Like this

Or this

  1. God dammit, this should go under number 4 but I just remembered the opening monologue by the British woman.

“You almost feel ashamed, that someone could be that important – that without them, you feel like nothing. No one will ever understand how much it hurts. You feel hopeless; like nothing can save you. And when it’s over, and it’s gone, you almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back – so that you could have the good.”

Who are you!??! You have an Irish accent…are you Dudley O’Shaughnessy’s mother?
OK, I’m worn out from rewinding the YouTube video so many times so I’m going to stop here. But I’d love to hear insights you readers have on the video. I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface. Just remember though Her Campus, don’t do drugs or you may wake up with “mine” tattooed on your ass.
