One of Hollywood’s favorite creative tag-teams is bringing a new film to fruition. That’s right, Ben Affleck and Matt
Damon, responsible for Blockbuster hits like Goodwill Hunting, are taking on the story of Whitey Bulger, an ex-fugitive recently captured after 16 years on the run.
Bulger, who shares hometown ties with both Boston actors, was leader of the Winter Hill Gang, infamous for illegal drug trading and underground gambling. The notorious 81-year-old gangster is currently facing a laundry list of federal charges ranging from murder to money laundering.
“Matt and I have been looking for something to do together for some time,” Affleck said to Deadline. “We’ve heard about Whitey Bulger since we were kids, and we are excited by the prospect of putting it on screen.”
The movie will span Bulger’s youth, time spent in Alcatraz and his life as a mob boss while simultaneously acting as an FBI informant.
