Looking for a fun way to celebrate Halloween? Why not try a scary movie night that includes all these classic and contemporary scary movies!

Classic:
Halloween: This movie should be at the top of everyone’s list of movies to watch this October 31st.  The thriller follows Michael Myers, a disturbed six year old who murders his sister and some other characters along the way.  The events take place on Halloween (hence the name of the movie.)  Maybe next time you’ll think twice about picking on your little brother.

Psycho: American horror film director, Alfred Hitchcock, created the movie Psycho.  The film is loosely based on true events, which makes it a little creepier.  In the movie, Marion Crane steals money from her boss and hits the road attempting to escape from her life in Phoenix, Arizona.  Overwhelmed and exhausted she decides to stop at the Bates motel where she meets Norman Bates.  He seems normal enough until he starts talking about his mother and watches Marion undress through a peephole. Creeper.  While Marion is in the shower a mysterious figure comes and murders her.  Who is it? You’ll just have to watch and find out!

Carrie: Carrie is like the 70’s version of Mean Girls.  The movie opens with a group of high school girls in gym class.  While they are changing, they proceed to bully the main character, Carrie.  In an effort to embarrass her even more, they forge her name to the prom ballot and make her think she is a queen candidate.  When she wins queen, the girls dump big blood on her head.  Between her lunatic mother, and the nasty girls in school, Carrie is fed up.  With her “powers” she sets fire to the whole town. You go girl.

The Exorcist: This movie will have your head spinning (watch the movie, you’ll get the joke).  Young Regan has changed.  Not only does she look different, but she’s acting different too.  No, she isn’t behaving like those girls on Toddlers and Tiaras, instead she has episodes of demonic shouting and projectile vomiting.  Glamorous huh?  Her mother, a famous actress, contacts a priest to help with the situation.  He concludes that Regan is possessed and performs on exorcism on her to help save the young girl from the demon inside her.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: First of all, I’m not talking about the terrible remake with Jessica Biel.  The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre was influential to all other horror movies.  It made killing people with power tools cool.  The movie was banned in several countries and numerous theaters because of the amount of violence it showed.  Interestingly, Tobe Hooper, one of the writers, claims to have limited the amount of onscreen gore in the hopes that the Motion Picture Association of America would rate it PG.  The MPAA slapped a big ole’ R on the movie.  Watch it to find out why.

Contemporary:
Paranormal Activity 1, 2, and 3: The first movie freaked me out, the second movie interrupted my sleep pattern, and the third movie has kept me up since I saw it this weekend.  You’ll rethink every creek you hear while you’re sleeping.  The first movie only cost $15,000 to make and ended up grossing over 193 million dollars at the box office!  For those of you who haven’t seen it (I’m sure most of you have) I don’t want to give too much away.  Grab a bag of popcorn, a strong man, and an extra set of underwear and have a scary movie night that includes this set of movies.

The Saw Collection:  Who doesn’t like a great movie about a robot clown that kills already depressed people.  Has the creator of these movies been thrown in jail yet? Just wondering.  Although, maybe those of us that continue to watch Saw are the crazy ones.  After all, we have helped the Saw movies collectively gross around $848 million dollars.  There’s too many of these gory movies to go into details about each, but I suggest you put down the popcorn to watch Saw.  There have been videos games, haunted houses, and even amusement park rides themed after Saw.  Let me know if you make it out alive from one of those!

The Strangers:  You know those movies where you yell at the television?  This is one of those movies.  The actions of the people who are being tortured are quite moronic.  1. Do not take your potential fiancé to small cottage in the middle of the moods.  Honestly, you pretty much asked to be killed.  2. Do not leave your potential fiancé alone in a small cottage in the middle of nowhere so you can go get a pack of cigarettes.  Did you write the killer direction to your home while you were in town too? 3. Do not open the door for strangers.  Didn’t your mother teach you anything?

Sorority Row: As rush approaches why not watch a movie about a bunch of girls in a sorority that get killed.  Scantily clad, killer sorority girls and delusional fraternity boys.  Sounds like college to me!  Watch this movie before you decide which house to pledge this winter.  I wouldn’t want you to end up like the girls in this movie.  It’s all fun and games until someone gets stabbed in the back… literally.

The Roommate: It’s midterm season and by now your roommate is getting on your nerves.  She follows you around and gets mad when you hang out with anyone but her.  Your things are going missing, but she claims she doesn’t have them.  Watch this movie and you’ll be moved out of your room in no time!  Or maybe you’re the crazy roommate who wants to stalk your fellow companion.  Watch this movie on what not to do.  Although this movie didn’t do so hot at the box office, it may help you to decipher what those “looks” from your roommate could mean.
