Ladies, we all know the daily struggles of trying to look good so that we can feel our best.  The cosmetics industry is getting entirely too confusing, which doesn’t help.  Just try walking into Sephora unprepared – before you know it you were convinced to buy six brushes, shadows and powders you didn’t even know existed.  Plus you dropped over a hundred bucks, and you don’t even know how to use what you bought!  Here are the Dos and Don’ts of beauty products so you can stay looking natural and beautiful, without all the stress.

DO: Buy nice mascara.

Mascara is a staple because everyone’s eyes look better with it.  Don’t be cheap on this one!  Clumpy mascara is a common error with college girls and it looks oh-so-bad.

Recommendations- BADgal Lash, Bare Essentials, Revlon, Maybelline Falsies or Dior.

DO: Wear eyeliner that matches your hair color.

If you are blonde or a light-haired brunette, thick black eyeliner offsets your natural coloring.  The point of eyeliner is to enhance your natural beauty, not to deter from it.   Look at the color of your eyebrows and match that.  Try a rich brown, charcoal grey or navy instead.

DO: Highlight the feminine contours of your face.

Keep that womanly glow!  Highlight your cheekbones and the upper-most part of your eyelids.  Try High Beam by Benefit; it gives a subtle sheen to your features without being overwhelming or glittery.

Also, give your cheeks and lips a rosy hue.  It’s fall and make up should be fun!  A touch of color brings warmth to your face.

DO NOT: cover your face in bronzer and foundation.

There is nothing wrong with using cover up to even you out or cover a blemish, but covering your entire face in liquid foundation is another story.  Try using natural products like Bare Minerals and Aveda instead if you feel like you really need it.  These products are better for your skin and look much less obvious.  And whatever you do, extend your make-up to your neck and chest.  Everyone can see if your face is three shades different than your neck!

DO NOT: over straighten your hair.

There is a time and a place to straighten your hair, and it is not every day.  Flat ironing your hair can be very damaging and breaks down the natural fibers that your hair produces.  Try blow-drying your hair out with a round brush instead.  It looks much more realistic and is better for your hair.  Also, if you have wavy hair own it- I would kill for your curls!
