It’s official. We’re all tired of the Ghost costume. Maybe it worked when you were 7, but it’s time to upgrade. And by upgrade, we’re not talking about sexy French maid. It’s all about classy, cool and original costumes this year, and boy do we have some ideas for you!

Nicki Minaj: Award winning rap icon, Nicki Minaj is proving to be a force on and off the mic. Who wouldn’t want to be this pop culture queen for a night? According to google, this is the most searched for Halloween costume of the year. Though apparently popular, it’s definitely not cliché. With all of the looks she pulls off on a daily basis, picking one shouldn’t be hard. The trick is picking one that’s not on TV every day. Try looking up some images of her while she’s just walking around, or when she’s on tour. This takes the top spot of creative costumes, and personally, I plan on taking on her persona this Halloween. Can you say ROMAN!?!

Angry Birds:  Everyone’s new favorite game (Thank you, Facebook) has inspired a huge cultural phenomenon that should be appropriately matched with pissed off looking, chubby birds flapping around this Halloween. Once again, this costume can be found in a bunch of different styles in a bunch of different stores. From wearing a full body costume of the red bird, to the yellow bird on your head, this costume has so many possibilities. There are even some for little kids! Cute, huh?

Wilfred: I know everyone’s got to have seen that hilarious FX show starring the world’s favorite Hobbit, (and one of my many soon-to-be celebrity husbands) Elijah Wood. Remember the dog he was looking after? Well then buddy, you’ve got yourself a Halloween costume. Full of spunk and vulgar humor, Wilfred will be the biggest, and most original hit of Halloween 2011. Your friends will be astounded at how original this is and you’ll pretty much be deemed ‘best dressed’ on sight.

Coke bottle: Yes, a Coke bottle. This is more for the last minute shoppers who are still trying to choose between the dark fairy costume and the purple witch, again. Here comes to opportunity to make a pretty awesome costume at home and still look amazing at any Halloween party or parade. All you have to do is find a dark red robe, knee high brown socks, brown shoes, a red cap and some white pipe cleaners. Make the pipe cleaners spell out the words “Coca-Cola” (for a more authentic approach, include the hyphen) and attach to the front and sides of the robe. After that, you can just put on everything else and wear! Did I mention how comfortable this is? But don’t forget to wear something underneath that robe! It can be a little drafty.

Leela: This last one is a prize. Low cost, low management, high cuteness potential. This leading lady from Futurama has not seen the Halloween coverage that she definitely deserves. For this fantastic look, all you need is a regular white tank, black pants, black boots, and a purple wig. Most likely, you can search through your closet and find the clothes, but the purple wig shouldn’t be more than $20. Worried about the whole Cyclops thing? No need. All it takes is a piece of a paper plate and a black sharpie, and you’ve got one eye, with its sights on ‘Most Original Costume’!
