Call it late night, fourth meal, maybe even fifth. Whatever your choice of diction, we all know that late night food has a tendency to call our name on the walk home. Eating out at what many would call the wee hours of the morning can have detrimental effects, especially on the young college girl who is trying to watch her weight.
When you eat right before you go to sleep, your metabolism completely shuts down as you enter into a dormant state, lying in bed with no physical action. Thus your body cannot process the food, and it turns into fat. Although weight gain is a serious concern for many, late night eating can produce other effects as well. Eating right before you go to bed forces your body to use a lot of energy to breakdown and digest the food. Instead of conserving energy while sleeping, your body is forced to use extra energy. This can disrupt your sleep pattern, causing you to wake more often and have trouble falling asleep. Thus late night eating can leave you feeling full, bloated, and furthermore groggy in the morning.
But how do we avoid the serious temptation?
1. One tip is to delete all of the late night delivery numbers from your contacts. Having to look up a telephone number to your favorite pizza place will make you think twice about the effort.
2. Another idea is to eat a large meal before you go out, this way you should not be as a hungry than if you ate something small a long time before you go out.
3. Thirdly, do not take money with you when you go out. Some small food places do not take a card, and also, handing over a card or entering a pin number may cause you to think twice about that late night snack!
So have fun this weekend, and when you feel yourself thinking about the cheesy bread you want to order later, just remember these simple tips!
