At a school where everyone is constantly immersed in the Emerson subculture, new students are a change of pace. Transfer boys have experienced college outside of the Emerson bubble, and for those of us looking for a cute date, they become attractive just by being here. We wonder where they’re from, what they’re like, and if they’re straight. “Transfer guys are new. You can’t stereotype them,” says Olivia Connors. “They’re more mysterious, which makes them exciting.”
          Â
Transfer guys aren’t like typical Emerson boys. Many of them haven’t been tainted by the Emersonian way of thinking– they aren’t obsessed with packing their schedules and trying to be king of their major.“I think my boyfriend is very different from a lot of the guys here,” says Molly Wolfberg. “He’s an athlete and loves sports and knows virtually nothing about movies, music, and theater.” Getting to know the transfer boy allows you to break away from the people who surround you everyday.Â

“It’s like dating a freshman…without having to date a freshman,” saysKrista Firkins.Transfer boys are fresh meat. They’re new. They’re cute. And they’re your age. You get all the perks that come with dating the new kid, without being called a cradle robber.
Because transfer boys are new to the area, not only can you show them around the school, but you can also explore the city as you get to know each other. “We spent a lot of time together when I showed him around Boston because he wasn’t as familiar with it,” says Molly.  “It was a really great way to get to know each other better.” These dates are casual, easy, and a way to show off your city smarts while discovering new places to hang out.
So the next time you notice someone new in History of Media Arts, take a chance and get to know him. You never know what sort of unique perspective the new guy will have to offer and he could end up being a really good date. Â
