I was at work the other day (I work at American Eagle Outfitters), and a group of girls came in looking for the perfect sushi date outfit. So I began to wonder, how many women have the same issue when a guy finally asks them out on a date? I’m sure quite a bit of you would have to do a ton of closet digging to find the perfect outfit. This week I have found a few tops that would be perfect for various kinds of dates that special guy might take you on.
The House Party
While taking you to a house party might not be the most romantic thing a guy could do, it is bound to happen. We’re in college! This paisley Blouse from H&M starts at $29.95, and it’s perfect to wear to that crowded house party. Its light fabric will keep you cool if there are a ton of people there. And when going to a house party, keep your outfit easy and true to your personality. Don’t wear sequins or heels. Keep it simple with a pair of jeans, a patterned top, and flats.
The Movies
WEAR A SWEATER. Sure, you could wear a tank-top and play the “I’m really cold” card to get him to put his arm around you. But do you really want to be that girl? Wear a sweater like this Wool-Blend Cable Knit Cardigan from Forever 21 ($29.80). You can never go wrong with a shade of brown. Pair with a patterned top and colored denim like the model above, or button it up with a plain t-shirt underneath.
The Concert/Show
If he takes you to a concert or a small show downtown, treat it almost as if it’s a house party. Wear a light-weight top like this AE Paneled Lace Boho Top ($39.50) available at American Eagle. I love that the lace detail isn’t covering the shirt, giving you the ability to show off the perfect amount of skin. Wear with a dark pair of jeans and leather wedges for the perfect concert outfit.
The Dinner
Even if he doesn’t take you to the fanciest restaurant in town, this dress is perfect for dinner with that special guy. This Staring at Stars Dolman Sequin Knit Dress from Urban Outfitters starts at $59.00, and can be dressed up with heels, or dressed down a bit with wedges or flats. I love the shine detail in this navy color, but this dress also comes in black and gray and they each have different patterns. Add a ton of jewelry, or let the dress speak for itself. However you style it, this dress is a must have for anyone’s date night ensemble.
The Surprise Date
 Â
If he wants to surprise you, in which case you have absolutely no idea what to wear, keep to classy and simple. I love a girl in a blazer, and the one shown above from H&M ($49.95) has great pocket details and satin lapels. Wear a simple blouse underneath it like the gray one shown above, also from H&M ($24.95). Pair the whole ensemble with a dark pair of jeans and a great pair of wedges or flats. You’ll be prepared to take on the evening without having to worry about your clothes.
No matter what you wear, make sure you keep true to your own personal style. A guy doesn’t want you to dress to the nines just to impress him. He wants to get to know you, or he wouldn’t have asked you out in the first place! So keep your outfit relatively simple and you’ll be sure to have a fantastic time!
