Autumn is now upon us, and the weather is too nice to stay cooped up indoors! Whether it’s taking a stroll through the Boston Common beneath the multi-colored leaves on the trees or enjoying a hot cup of cider by the wharf, there are lots of fun, free ways to get out and enjoy autumn in Boston. I’m all for immersing myself in the beauty of autumn, and with this list of Five Free, Fun Activities for Fall in Boston, you can be too!
1. Check out the SoWa Marketplace every Sunday May-October, and select dates in November! The SoWa marketplace, located at 460 Harrison Avenue in South Boston, is just a short bus ride away from campus. The marketplace offers a variety of outdoor booths set up by local vendors with modern art, trendy clothes, handmade products, organic foods, and more. Not to mention an array of food trucks including Roxy’s Grilled Cheese, Bon Me Foods, and Boston Speed Dog. Be sure to stop by and see it for yourself on November 13, 20, or 27 from 10 am to 2 pm.
2. Looking for a simple and convenient way to enjoy nature and learn a little more about the city you live in? Head over to the Boston Historical National Park at 15 State Street to go on a free 90-minute tour of the Freedom Trail and other historical sights! Just a 10-minute walk from campus, it’s an easy and relaxing way to spend an afternoon outdoors while learning about Boston from a knowledgeable guide. Tours run daily in November until the 28 at 2 pm, and on weekends at 10 am and 2 pm.
3. Do you love cupcakes as much as I do? If so, be sure to head over to Kickass Cupcakes in Davis Square the last Monday of every month from 5-7 pm! Enjoy a pleasant and relaxing stroll through Davis Square while enjoying your delicious, cocktail-inspired cupcake made fresh daily.
4. Surround yourself with the scents, sights, and feel of autumn at the Arnold Arboretum! Located in Jamaica Plain, and easily accessible by the Forest Hills T stop on the orange line, it’s a calm and quiet place to escape to on any Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday for a guided tour. Tours are given Wednesdays at 12:15 pm, Saturdays at 10:30 am, and Sundays at 1:00 pm until November 13.
5. In the mood for a lazy day? Just head across the street to the Boston Public Garden and revel in its beauty during this time of year! Bring along a blanket and picnic lunch, and even paddle around the pond in a swan boat. You’ll forget it’s less than ten minutes from your dorm and the busy Boston traffic.
