The bib necklace has been a popular trend for years now. Whether they are flashy or more subdued, this statement necklace adds instant character to every outfit. I am a big fan of the bib necklace but I had a hard time finding one that was truly unique until I stumbled upon a DIY version on Pinterest.

For those of you who have not ventured onto Pintrest, do it! The website acts as a virtual pin board where people post everything from delicious recipes to unique craft projects. (Warning, this website is highly addictive!) It was on this site that I found how to create my own bib necklace using things you could find in your dad’s toolbox.

To create the washer necklace you will need:
Varying sizes of metal washers
Flexible steel wire
A pair of pliers
A hot glue gun
Embroidery thread
Ribbon

The first step is to cover your washers in embroidery thread. Have fun with this! Choose varying shades of one color or create stripes with contrasting colors. Once you have covered the entire washer, secure the thread on the back of the washer using a hot glue gun. Next, arrange the washers into your desired shape and tie them to one another using the steel wire. To help with this step, use a pair of pliers to pinch the wire into place. If you don’t want the steel wire to show then take more embroidery thread and cover the wire connecting each washer. Finally, measure and cut ribbon to your desired length and loop it through the washers to complete your necklace.

It is that simple! Enjoy the compliments you receive on this one of a kind necklace and don’t forget to mention you made it yourself.
