OSU’s icons find love

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

Enid Native and Marketing major Aly Akers has been twirling for 17 years, and today she is Oklahoma State’s feature twirler.
Growing up she always knew she wanted to twirl in college, but preferred to stay in state.
“I wanted to stay in state, so that my parents and grandparents can come to all my twirling events,” Akers said, “Twirling has not just been a huge part in my life, but in theirs as well.”
Aly has many things to be proud of including her biggest accomplishment recently when she was crowned Miss OSU 2012. Her platform is P.A.S.T., which stands for, Prevent and Stop Tormenting which talks about bullying.

In 2010, she started her platform and has traveled across the state talking to 2,000 students about it. To continue with P.A.S.T., she is currently trying to start a student organization on campus.
Because Aly is Miss OSU, she will compete for the Miss Oklahoma title in June. The 21-year-old is as classy as her favorite store, Bebe, which sells tons of fun black and white clothing.
When Aly isn’t twirling, she is playing racquetball, or trying to get no-bake cookies from her boyfriend, Pistol Pete.
Twenty-two year old Construction Management major Jordan Northcutt from Lexington, Okla., is happy to be O-State’s honorary emblem.
The process of becoming Pistol Pete starts in April with tryouts that consist of 10 to 15 men and is judged by a panel of six former Petes.
Fortunately, for Jordan, not only is he Pete, but he has stolen the heart of Miss OSU. Many people would probably see this couple as “typical,” but Aly and Jordan’s relationship is completely genuine.
It all started with a spirited Sigma Chi/Phi Mu coke date when Aly was asked to perform a twirling routine. There a beautiful, country/city girl Theta and a down to earth, Farmhouse boy met and that is where everything fell into place.
“My favorite quote is everything happens for a reason,” Akers said. The reason for this is, because Jordan almost didn’t go to the coke date, and if he didn’t he wouldn’t have met his sweetheart.”
“Opportunities are the keys that unlock the doors to success,” Northcutt says, which is his favorite quote.
Aly and Jordan are complete entertainers, both on and off Boone Pickens Stadium and love the memories they have made together. Their favorite one so far is when they watched the stars a few days earlier.                Even though, the schedules of these two may get hectic, they try to make as memories with each other as possible.
