With the leaves finally changing and the temperatures starting to drop, it’s time to transition your wardrobe for fall weather. Obviously, it would be more exciting to take a trip to the mall and purchase all new items for the fall, but with a college budget, but that isn’t the most feasible option. When choosing autumn pieces for your wardrobe, a splurge this season can become a timeless staple in your closet. Check out this guide to help you know when you should spend the extra cash and when you should save up for something bigger and better…

1. SPLURGE: Brown Leather Boots

I honestly can’t think of a time last fall when I didn’t pull out my brown boots to wear for the day. Summer’s passed, so the Sperrys need to go, and it’s not cold enough yet to justify pulling on your Uggs (no matter how comfy you are in them). Purchasing a nice pair of brown leather boots will be your greatest buy this season. If you spend the money now, they’ll last you for years to come and you can wear them throughout the season. Not to mention, they match everything. So if you want to go casual with black leggings, they work. If you want to rock those dark skinny jeans, they’re perfect. If you want to brave the cooler weather with a fall skirt, they go great (and give you a little extra warmth). These Coconuts Becky Riding Boots ($139.95) are a nice in between shade of brown to match more and the buckles in the back add a little flair.

2. SAVE: Necklaces and Earrings
A girl can never have too many accessories and pieces of jewelry. And while diamonds may be forever, not all of your jewelry has to be. There are so many cute necklaces you can find for under $10, that it’s much better to buy in bulk instead of splurging on that one pendant necklace you’ve had your eye on from Tiffany and Co. Switching up your accessories refreshes your outfits, whether you are wearing new clothing or not. So go out and buy a few new pieces, that way, when you’re wearing your shirts from last year’s shopping trip, everyone will think they’re brand new! These are all under $10 from Forever 21.

3. SPLURGE: Blazer

Blazers!! They’re so great; classy and sophisticated, but playful. They can be dressed up or dressed down. They can be used as a fall jacket (this navy J. Crew Schoolboy Blazer ($188.00) is made of wool, so it’ll definitely keep you warm) or the sleeves can be pushed up and be worn on a warmer day. You should splurge on this piece because of all of the options you have when wearing. On top of everything above, you can literally wear whatever you want underneath. A men’s white v-neck? Done. A nice button down? Done. The opportunities are endless, and once you buy it, you can keep it forever!

4. SAVE: Leggings, Tights, and Jeggings
Since you’re pretty much stuck in pants for about six straight months during the fall and winter seasons, take a break from denim and try another option. Leggings and tights are great because they come in so many different colors and are more exciting then just different shades of denim. Plus, when they’re cheap, you can buy as many colors as you want! Jeggings are basically sent straight from heaven. They look exactly like jeans, but are just as stretchy and comfortable as a plain pair of leggings, and no one knows the difference! I wear my jeggings constantly, and people are always shocked when I tell them they’re not real jeans. If you find a pair with pockets and a zipper, it’s foolproof!
