In today’s music, it seems as though there are no more unique voices out there, especially for women. With all of the auto-tune and unoriginal music that we hear, is there anyone left that really blows us away? The answer is yes, although you might have to do some searching.
Here are some incredibly talented women who are a breath of fresh air in today’s music industry:
Florence Welch (Florence + the Machine)
The 25-year old British songstress Florence Welch
exploded onto the music scene with her 2009 debut album Lungs, where she put her powerful voice to some serious use. And even with her most recent October 2011 release Ceremonials, Florence continues to bring soul and passion into her songs.

Alison Mosshart (The Kills)
One half of the rock duo The Kills, lead vocalist Alison Mosshart carries a kind of no-nonsense swagger throughout all her work. She has even collaborated with fellow musician Jack White in his super group, The Dead Weather.
The Kills’ most recent work is Blood Pressures which was released this April.

Shara Worden
Performing under the name My Brightest Diamond, Brooklyn native Shara Worden has made quite a name for herself in the Indie music world. She has mastered control over her commanding voice, transitioning from light and airy tones to strong, chill-inducing notes with grace. Her latest album All Things Will Unwind went on sale this past October.

Joy Williams (The Civil Wars)
When one first listens to country band,
The Civil Wars, it’s certainly hard not to notice the voice of Joy Williams. Her impressive range and solid soprano make her a force to be reckoned with. Her and fellow member John Paul White’s debut album, Barton Hollow, was released in February to great acclaim.
