A little Faithe goes a long way

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Campbell chapter.

She always sports a smile and has an encouraging word to share with each and every person she meets. Reverend Faithe Beam is a wonderful role model to Campbell Collegiettes™ of how a strong, Christian, young woman should live her life. Life is not all business for this Collegiette™ role model, however. For Reverend Beam’s 40th birthday she went skydiving, and describes the experience as “amazing!” With her positive outlook and strong faith, it comes as no shock that Reverend Beam is this week’s Campus Celebrity.

Where did you attend college?
I graduated from Appalachian State University in 1990 with a degree in music education.

Where are you from?
I was born in Raleigh, NC, but I grew up in Shelby, NC.

Please tell me a little bit about yourself and your family.
My father is a retired minister and my mother a retired nurse.  I have two sisters and I am the middle child.  My husband, Tom, and I have been married 17 years and we have a six year old son, Patrick.

What do you like most about Campbell?
When I visited Campbell to consider graduate school, I felt so comfortable.  To me, there is a genuine sense of community among the students, faculty, and staff.

What inspired you to become a minister and when did you decide to pursue a career in ministry?
My father is a minister and as a child, I loved going to work with him.  I wanted to be just like him.  As children, my sisters and I “played church” and I was always the preacher!  I have always enjoyed the church and aspects of ministry.  My call to ministry has been a progressive one and I always felt as though I would do something in ministry but did not know what that would look like.  When I graduated from college, I planned to teach orchestra and work in the church part-time.   A church called me though, right after graduation, and my first job was as a minister of music and education.

How long have you been a part of the Campbell family?
I came as a divinity school student in 2000 and started working at Campbell in 2002.

What is your Bucket List Top 3?
I don’t really have a bucket list.  My husband and I enjoy traveling and we would like to visit throughout the United States and places around the world.

What is your favorite thing about Buies Creek?
Like the university, Buies Creek has a comfortable, small community feel.  I really like being able to walk across campus or down the street and speak to people I know.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your career?
I find the greatest fulfillment in getting to know students more deeply and walking alongside of them in their life journey.

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy reading, playing sports (I really like football!), and traveling.  I spend a lot of my free time with my family.

What is your favorite movie?
Apollo 13

Any fun facts about you or anything you feel the world should know about you?
For my 40th birthday I went skydiving.  It was amazing!
