Whether you are visiting Europe for a study abroad program or just for a winter vacation, you cannot help but notice the sleek and sophisticated styles in some of the world’s greatest fashion capitals. Shuffling around in a sweatshirt, leggings and boots may be permissible at home, but European women wouldn’t be caught dead in a pair of Ugg boots. Luckily, Her Campus has the latest trends to keep you in the know about some of Europe’s biggest fashion trends from London to Milan.

1. Bigger is better
Whether it’s a Chanel bag or a vintage satchel, Europe has proven that  bigger is indeed better. During your trip to Europe you may want to toss your small, convenient handbag and grab a larger, eye-catching purse. Larger handbags also allow you to carry tourist essentials, like sunglasses, umbrellas, water bottles and cameras — all in one gorgeous place.

2. Coats, coats, coats
Trench coats seem to have emerged this season as temperatures drop. European fashion has seen an overflow of trench coats and pea coats as people opt for warmer attire. During your overseas adventure, trade in your trusty North Face fleece for a more chic and stylish trench or pea coat.

3. Crown in glory
Large expression pieces have always been big in Europe but with this season’s hair accessories, big just got bigger. Although we tend to go soft and subtle when it comes to hair accessories, Europe goes extroverted and loud creating some of the most fashionable statement pieces yet. Say goodbye scrunchie and hello over-sized headband!

4. Black is the New Black
In Europe, every season is miniskirt season. Yes, shorts are possible in January. How do European women keep this trend elegant and tasteful, and most importantly, keep themselves from freezing? Simple, black stockings. This trend keeps you warm and you remain fashionable. This is definitely a must-have so go ahead and toss those shorts in your suitcase.

5. Rise and Shine
Sequins are definitely “in” in Europe this season, and when worn correctly, they look absolutely stunning. When most people think of sequins they think of their little sisters and hours upon hours of ballet recitals. But Europe, especially Paris, has created ways to wear sequins that don’t make you look like a 5-year-old girl trapped in a woman’s body.

6. CONFIDENCE
Whether European women are wearing an over-sized floppy hat or chunky jewelry, they always have their finest accessory at hand: confidence. Confidence has the potential to turn a simple outfit to an eye-catching, dazzling masterpiece. During your next trip to Paris, you will turn just as many heads as the attractive Parisian woman walking in front of you.

Happy traveling, Collegiettes, and don’t forget your cameras! BON VOYAGE!
