Four Guys in a Booth

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

Looking for something to do on a boring Monday night?  Tune into one of WNYO’s most popular radio shows, 4 Guys in a Booth.  The members of 4GB include sophomores Brian Camporese, John Mongiello, Adam Rosenbarker and Allen Wengert.  Other important members of 4GB are co-producers Adam Shear and Tyler Baker-Carr, also sophomores.

Mongiello was the creator of the radio show.  He has his own show on Saturday afternoons.  One day he asked Camporese, Wengert and one of their other friends, Chris Walters, to join him.  The guys talked about random topics and it worked.  Instead of having to audition for a two hour show, the boys were asked to do one.  The kept doing the show week after week, gaining more viewers.

Walters no longer attends OswegoState, so 4GB added a new member, Rosenbarker.  Unlike all of the members, Rosenbarker is an adolescent education major, with a concentration in biology.  Although his major does not indicate it, Rosenbarker would like to continue to be involved with broadcasting-related projects, such as the radio station.

Before the show, the guys make a list of what they would like to do on the show, but some of the time they do not follow it and say whatever they like, within reason.  If the guys on the show are talking about one certain topic for too long, the producers tell them and they talk about something else.  Some of the topics talked about on the show include relationships, impressions and talking about upcoming holidays.  They also look up funny videos while on air.  The types of music played on the show include different genres, such as classic rock and hip-hop.

Like almost everything today, the radio show has a Facebook page.  The page is popular, with over 500 likes.  People from all over the world like the page and tune into the shows.  During the shows, the guys interact with fans and take some suggestions people say.  The page gets a lot of commotion and a large amount of comments during the show.

The guys from 4GB are not only popular with the radio station.  Shear also tries out different technologies, including new cell phones, for companies.  Trying out these new technologies has benefits.  Shear has gone to technology expos and also has over 500 followers on Twitter.  He is a huge asset to 4GB because he also knows how to podcast and archive the broadcasts and has put them on iTunes.

Every member brings something different to the show.  Mongiello is the unofficial leader and opens and closes the shows.  Camporese is the most opinionated and sometimes goes off on rants.  Wengert is the most serious of the bunch.  Rosenbarker is the newest member, so he is treated like a rookie.  Even though the show has many different personalities, the group is made up of great friends who love having fun.

“We’re professionally unprofessional,” says Rosenbarker.

Don’t forget to listen to 4 Guys in a Booth Monday nights from 8p.m.-10p.m.on the school radio station, WNYO.

Kaitlin Provost graduated from SUNY Oswego, majoring in journalism with a learning agreement in photography. She grew up in five different towns all over the Northeast, eventually settling and graduating from high school in Hudson, Massachusetts. Kait now lives in the blustery town of Oswego, New York, where she can frequently be found running around like a madwoman, avoiding snow drifts taller than her head (which, incidentally, is not very tall). She has worked for her campus newspaper, The Oswegonian, as the Assistant News Editor, and is also the President of the Oswego chapter of Ed2010, a national organization which helps students break into the magazine industry. She hopes to one day work for National Geographic and travel the world.
