Ever wonder how to add a pop of color to your apartment, dorm or living space? Inspired by a pin on Pinterest.com, here is an easy 5 step process on how to make your own artwork. The project is crayon art and the cost of the project is less than $20 and the time is a little under an hour.

Step 1: Get Prepared

Buy the necessary items if you don’t already have them (purchased at Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby):
 ·         White Canvas Board (for 2 ~$9)
·         Hot Glue Gun  ($3)
·         Glue Sticks ($2)
·         64 Pack of Crayola Crayons ($3)
·         Blow Dryer (Suggested borrowing one rather than buying one if you don’t have one)

Step 2: Getting the crayons naked

After laying out everything you need take all 64 crayons and peel the wrapping off. A trick to use for easier peeling is to peel from the crease all the way down and the wrappings usually just pop right off. Once you have all of the crayons naked place them in order on the canvas. I suggest placing them by color category but get creative.

Step 3: Hot Glue the Crayons

Once you have all of your crayons in order of how you want them the next step is to glue them on the canvas. Only go about 1/3 of the way down from the top of the crayon with gluing them to the board. Also make sure you are putting the glue straight on the canvas and then applying the crayon to the canvas, otherwise if you apply the glue to the crayon it will melt.

Step 4: Mess Catcher

Once your board is finished gluing, set up your board along a wall vertical or have someone hold it. Make sure you either have a towel, that you don’t particularly care for or plastic wrapping in order to catch the wax in case it goes onto the floor or wall.

Step 5: Drying Station

After you have your board all set up and prepped it’s time to start melting. Make sure your blow dryer gets hot enough to melt the wax. Make sure you are holding the blow dryer at a 45 degree angle above the crayons in order for proper melting. Go slowly over each color block and move on to the next once each one adheres to your liking. Voilà, you are done and ready to hang this lovely piece of artwork in your bedroom, living room, or kitchen.

She has always had a passion for fashion and writing, so she figured, why not combine them? She was a writer for Her Campus only one semester before becoming the Editor-in-chief and campus correspondent for fall of 2011. Lottie is very excited to take on the challenge and to make great things happen with Her Campus magazine.
