Sometimes I wish I had grown up in the ‘60s, just so I could experience how glamorous people thought traveling was. Now when you go to the airport all you see are sweatpants and flip flops, hair a mess, no makeup, and no one cares what they look like. However, when I go to the airport, Ilook good.Even when I drive fourteen hours to my hometown I have jeans on, a nice shirt, and a jacket – no matter what. Traveling itself is trendy, and your clothes should reflect that. You never know who you’ll meet while you’re on a plane or when you’re stopped at a rest stop on a freeway. For all you know, you could run into your soul mate! And with the holidays coming up, we are all going to be traveling somewhere even if it is only a few hours away. Take a look at these comfy but chic alternatives to your usual travel gear, and make sure you’re a trendy traveler.
An over-sized sweater will do you wonders on a plane or in a car. This Striped three-quarter sleeve sweater from Gap ($49.95) is perfect for a trip that’s long or short. It comes in a variety of colors, and I love a three-quarter length sleeve for traveling. You’re constantly in and out of various bags, and you don’t want a baggy sleeve to get in between you and your favorite travel accessories.
This AE Open Stich Crew Sweater from American Eagle Outfitters ($59.50) is perfect for traveling. The open stich allows your torso to breath, but it still provides great coverage and warmth when the temperature gets a bit cooler.
While this might not be the warmest option, I adore this Long Crochet Cardigan from Forever 21 ($34.80). The color is perfect for the transition from Fall to Winter. You can throw this over almost anything and you’ll be ready for that long trip home.
You all are going to think I’m crazy, but save the leggings and the sweatpants for the hotel room! Unless you have invested in a nice pair of leggings that aren’t going to hardcore ride up, wear pants that are made from a comfy material. On the left is a Jegging from American Eagle ($44.50), which I love. The color is perfect, and the material is so soft you’ll still feel like you’re in sweats. On the right are the 1969 lightweight corduroy leggings from Gap ($59.95). While these are technically “leggings,” they button up, which will help keep them from riding up when you’re sitting for long periods of time.
If I didn’t have to wear pants while I was traveling, I would be ecstatic! So ladies, since you don’t have to, don’t wear pants! Wear a comfy dress like this one from Forever 21. This Plaid ¾ Sleeve Shirtdress ($15.99) is perfect for Fall, and has great ruffle detail at the neckline. Throw a sweater on over it and you’re ready for a long, comfy flight.
This great OBEY Blank Tee Dress from Urban Outfitters ($45.00) is PERFECT for any sort of travel. Pair it with your favorite sweater, or it would look fantastic with the crocheted cardigan from before. This is a great easy-to-wear piece that is perfect for a plane, train, car, or bus.
This dress you obviously don’t need a sweater for, and if you wanted to you could put on your favorite denim underneath. This Rib Knit Dress from Zara ($29.90) is perfect for when it gets chilly on that long flight.
I love this Urban Renewal Surplice Drape Dress from Urban Outfitters ($59.00). I love the three-quarter sleeve, and the draping is fantastic. With a cinched waist, you won’t feel like you’re swimming in fabric. This comes in a variety of colors and is perfect for wherever your travels might take you.
While heels are indeed fabulous, wearing them while you’re traveling might not be such a good idea. Wear a flat instead that’s easy to get on and off. Nothing is more annoying than having to wait at security for someone who has to unlace their boots. On the right is the BDG Fringe Loafer from Urban Outfitters ($39.00). On the left is a simple Snakeskin Ballerina flat from Zara ($49.90). Both of these come in various other colors, and they are perfect for any sort of traveling.
So stay trendy while you’re traveling with these great pieces that are sure to keep you warm and cozy. Leave your sweats in your suitcase and save them for the hotel room! Always dress to impress, even if you’re flying across the country or sitting in a car for hours on end. You never know who you might run into!
