This week I focus on foundation basics. It’s time to take the guesswork out of buying your next beauty product. Just as the base of a relationship is love, the base of cosmetic products is foundation. So, how do you fall in love with your perfect foundation?

Determining whether you prefer a liquid or powder foundation is essential to both the application and the appearance of the product. The main difference between a liquid and powder foundation is texture. A liquid foundation sits heavier on the skin and , depending on the foundation, will provide a sheer to full coverage. Powder foundation sits lighter on the skin and provides a sheer, more natural finish. It’s important to remember a foundation does not replace a concealer:the purpose of a foundation is to even out your skin tone and reduce the appearance of skin imperfections, not eliminate and conceal all blemishes.

Next you must decide if you prefer a matte or radiant finish. A liquid foundation will often project a dewy radiance to the skin, whereas a powder foundation will tend to matte the natural glow of your skin. That being said, depending on the cosmetic brand you use, there are liquid foundations that leave the skin with a matte finish. It’s key to remember that because a liquid foundation is heavier, a matte finish often requires blush and/or bronzer to bring back a glow.

My impulse buy of the week for liquid foundation is Lancome’s Teint Miracle, a complexion-enhancing liquid foundation, it recreates the true, natural glow of perfect skin. Teint Miracle offers 18-hour hydration that leaves the skin looking radiant for a full day’s wear. For best application results, use your finger for a sheer coverage or a foundation brush for a more moderate coverage. Oil free and 37% water, Teint Miracle will not cause breakouts!

My impulse buy of the week for powder foundation is Dior’s DiorSkin Forever Compact. Enhanced with Dior’s Skincare Essence, their formula leaves a flawless finish for a silky smooth complexion that lasts all day. It creates visibly perfect skin that doesn’t sit on your pores or leave a caked on  appearance. For best application results, use the powder puff provided by Dior or your own powder brush.

Foundation is a leading product in the cosmetic industry, and is essential to every woman’s cosmetic routine. These products can be purchased at any Bay, Sears or Sephora location. Ask any beauty advisor to complete your look and be prepared to fall in love with your perfect foundation match.
