For the majority of us college students, it’s always nice to try to save a few bucks whenever possible, especially when it comes to clothes. Ever since high school, my friends and I have been exploring local thrift stores and vintage boutiques to find deals and unique items.

Thirfting is a fantastic and fun way to save money, and I’ve found a few of my favorite pieces of clothing at secondhand discount stores. For example, I found a red Lacoste cardigan for $7 at Goodwill on Alafaya Trail. The retail price of that attire is $155 according to the Lacoste official website. That is a major discount, and cardigans are one of my favorite things to wear during the fall.

Below is an entire thrift store ensemble. The maroon sweater, the high-waisted black shorts, the colorful tribal belt, and the scarf are all from Goodwill – for a total cost of $11. The outfit was paired with mustard yellow tights and combat heel boots, both from Urban Outfitters.

This bicycle sweater looks straight from an Urban or American Apparel catalog. Discovered at Goodwill for $2.

The long sleeve button down shirt, the floral vest, and long yellow stone necklace were also Goodwill purchases. Shirt: $4; vest: $2; necklace: $2. The tights are from Urban and cost $12.Total cost of outfit: $20.

The tribal high-waisted skirt and red belt are from Good will. Tribal skirt: $4; belt: $2. The long sleeve see-through black shirt is from CottonOn for $13.97. CottonOn was also a best-kept secret. Not many people I know around the Orlando area have heard of CottonOn. It has prices of Forever21with the style of H&M. Total outfit cost: $19.97.

Jewelry is one of my beloved possessions to hunt for in thrift stores. All three necklaces below were found at thrift stores. They all cost $2 each. I have seen similar necklaces at H&M from a price range of $5.95-$12.95.

This tribal cardigan was found at Goodwill for $4. I am loving all the tribal fashion that is flourishing around this season. This cardigan has amazing winter colors and can make any plain outfit pop. There are numerous similar cardigans at Urban Outfitters right now ranging from $79$466.

This high, button-up striped long sleeve shirt and high-waisted red shorts were found at Goodwill. Shirt: $4; high-waisted shorts: $3. Adding a unique hairstyle can also give an outfit some flare. I love tight, high buns with a high, button up long sleeve shirt – a very classy look.

Thrifting is similar to a scavenger or treasure hunt. It can be either hit or miss. Mixing and matching a few thrifting buys with your designer clothes can make a unique combination that no one else will have, giving you an exclusive, desired, and fashionable look.
