Winters in Boston are brutal. They’re blisteringly cold, snowy, windy, and can be downright unpleasant at times, but that doesn’t mean we don’t secretly love them. They give us a chance to bundle up, layer, and be cozy while looking fabulous. What’s the winter fashion at BC like, you ask? Well, here are a few of the things we love:
-
Bean Boots. These classics from L.L. Bean are amazing. They are sturdy, comfortable, warm, and look cute with anything.
-
UGG Boots. These are the classic comfort boots. Not the most beautiful things created, but they’re warm and surprisingly durable.
-
Puffy Coats. Again, they’re warm, and with a faux fur trim around the hood, you can add a little bit of glamour to a functional item.
-
Patagonia Fleeces. They’re comfortable, warm, versatile, and come in every color of the rainbow. What’s not to love?
-
Scarves. Scarves. Scarves. Scarves. Need I say more?
-
Chunky Sweaters. Comfortable and chic, these are wardrobe staples. You can find them anywhere, but this one from H&M is great and affordable on a collegiette’s™ budget!
-
Leggings. Disclaimer: Leggings are not pants. But when worn appropriately (with everything covered that should be covered… nothing transparent), they’re great for under a chunky sweater or tucked into boots.
-
Ballet Flats. We love these. They go great dressed down with jeans, up with skirts, or for anything else imaginable. They come in every color, style, and price range imaginable, which makes them perfect for any occasion.
And a few of the must-haves for this winter:
-
Furry Earmuffs. Faux fur earmuffs are huge this year. These ones from Jack Wills are cute, warm, andwill make a serious statement.
-
Pea Coats. Opt for a slightly dressier choice in outerwear this season with a classic wardrobe staple that will never go out of style.
-
Fingerless Gloves and Mittens (with matching hats and scarves, of course). Not only are they adorable, but they also keep your hands warm and leave your fingers available for texting (and whatever else gloves and mittens usually restrict you from doing).
-
Fur Vests. Again, faux fur is huge this year, and these vests are amazing. This one from Top Shop is a perfect example.
-
Patterned Sweaters. Patterned ski sweaters are back!! This one from H&M is a great example of how a pattern can spice up your winter wardrobe and add a little bit of festivity!
-
High Wool Socks. They’re warm, they’re cozy, and they look awesome peeking out of a pair of boots.
- Ankle Booties. These chic boots are a great alternative to ballet flats, especially when it’s too cold out to expose your feet to the elements.
-
Sequins/Glitter. Sparkly is best. It’s festive, fun, and adds excitement to any outfit. This shirt from Top Shop is a great example, but you can find them anywhere this season.
This winter, don’t just go for what’s comfortable; trade in that hoodie for a cute sweater, dress things up a little with a pea coat or something sparkly. You can be warm and cozy and still look fabulous, so why not be?
