As the weather continues to get colder and the leaves have almost fallen from the trees, fashion has also shifted
seasons at Emory. Collegiettes™ have tucked their tank tops and shorts into their closets, and made room for warmer gear.

Just as there is diversity in everything here, there is diversity in what we wear. Coming from the Midwest, I’m amazed not to see people only in Uggs, jeans, and a sweater everyday. But Emory students walk by in a wide range of outfits that always keep me on my toes.

There’s usually a good mix between typical college students and people that try new trends. The typical college
outfit consists of either: a) jeans and either a sweatshirt or t-shirt of some kind, or b) athletic gear (most likely Nike running shorts, brightly-colored tennis shoes, and a t-shirt from some event on campus, complete with a draw-string bag).

The atypical outfit varies from person to person, but there are a few trends I’ve noticed over the past few weeks.

First, there is a resurgence of the loose sweater paired with leggings or colored jeans. The sweaters range in
color from neutrals like charcoal grey and black to funky patterns. Many girls opt for long cardigans with a print on the shoulders or the mid-section. One day I saw a girl with a cardigan-jegging combo that jumped out at me. Her jeggings were a light-blue color, and over a plain tank she wore a dark grey cardigan with diagonal stripes of neon yellow running from the shoulder to the waist. It was a simple outfit with no obvious accessories, but it was fashionable all the same.

Another trend that seems to be emerging is the turn to classy pieces to accentuate an outfit. One such piece is a
leather biker-type jacket. These typically look best in dark colors like purple, grey, black, and brown, and they look super chic with dark jeans and heels. Also, instead of wearing Uggs or bulky tennis shoes, long leather boots or boots with studs or fringes are in. They add style to an outfit if there’s no time to plan accessories. Some people spice up the look even more by wearing knee high socks that come up over the top of the boots.

The start of a new season always means opportunities to update your look. So, ladies, start searching those closets and planning those outfits today. If you need some inspiration, all you have to do is take a walk around campus.
