AND THE WINNERS WERE… ANNA WALLACE AND MATT SIMKISS FROM LEEDS MEDSOC!
I sat down with the winning couple a few days after the event to chat about regaining the prestigious title and why their society rocks!
HC: How did it feel being crowned Mr and Mrs Leeds?
MML: Relieved to say the least! There was a huge pressure to do well after last year and we’re so glad we were able to retain our title.
HC: How have the rest of MedSoc reacted to your win?
MML: Our President was over the moon of course and I think it just proves to everyone that MedSoc are always up for a laugh!
HC: So what is your role in MedSoc?
MML: We’re both 2nd year sports reps for MedSoc and are really involved in that side of the society. This year we organised the first MedSoc Varsity against Manchester Uni and are hoping to carry it on as an annual event. Competition is in any MedSoc members nature, whether its sport or something like Mr and Mrs Leeds!
HC: Why in your opinion, are MedSoc the best society at Leeds?
MML: We’re the biggest and the best! We all have a likeminded approach to life and with 25 – 30 committee members there’s constantly things going on, like our recent cocktail party which was attended by over 1,500 medics enjoying £2000 worth of free booze – it doesn’t take a genius to work out what a winning combination that was!
HC: How do you think your new celebrity status is going to affect your every day life as a student?
MML: Signing autographs and posing with Japanese tourists has become a daily occurrence since our win, but we’re taking it all in our stride.
