February – Lady Gaga becomes the 1,000th member to top Billboard’s Top 100

Are you a Lady Gaga fan? Lady Gaga’s single “Born This Way” became the 1,000th No. 1 on the Billboard’s Hot 100 song chart and the 19th song to debut at number one in Billboard’s history. Her album, titled Born This Way, later debuted in May. It also features other singles, which have been released throughout the year. They include “You and I” as well as “Marry the Night.”

March – Rebecca Black’s Video “Friday” Goes Viral on YouTube

Most, if not all, of you remember this one. Rebecca Black’s first music video underwent an immense amount of negative critique after getting nearly 30 million views within the first week it was online. It was quickly deemed the “worst song ever” due to the amount of Auto-Tune used on her voice and the content of her video. She even had to leave school after death threats were made and the video was eventually taken down only to be uploaded again months later.

May – Osama Bin Laden is Killed

Almost 10 years after he masterminded the Sept. 11 attacks, Osama Bin Laden was found and killed by Navy Seals in his hideout in Pakistan. Once announced by President Barack Obama, Americans throughout the country celebrated in the streets chanting U.S.A. repeatedly.

June – Casey Anthony’s Trial

This one may hit close to home with a few of you. Prosecutors fiercely tried to find justice for Caylee Anthony, a toddler from Orlando who was murdered back in 2008, by attempting to convict her mother of first-degree murder and to achieve the death penalty. After almost a month and a half long trial the jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of all charges except for those that accused her of lying to law enforcement.

July – Death of Amy WinehouseÂ
Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her apartment after a long battle with drugs and alcohol. Memorials and tributes immediately found their way to her apartment after the announcement. She was only 27.

The VMA awards were unlike any other as Beyonce Knowles announced that she and her husband, Jay-Z, were expecting a baby after living it up on stage with a performance of her new song, Love on Top.

September – The U.S. Remembers 9-11 Ten Years Later

Millions marked the ten-year anniversary of that tragic Tuesday morning in September 2001 when thousands died in the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and United Flight 93.

October – Kim’s “Fairy Tale Wedding” Ends Early

After millions tuned in to watch Kim Kardashian finally tie the knot with NBA star Kris Humphries, most were shocked when she announced that she was filing for divorce after only 72 days of marriage! #ThingsshorterthanKim’smarriage immediately started trending on Twitter and speculation rose about whether or not the marriage was only for publicity.

November – Penn State Scandal

An investigation into former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky for supposedly abusing young boys over the course of 15 years went public and caused a university wide scandal. As a result, University President Graham Spanier and Football Head Coach Joe Paterno were fired. JoePa was head coach for almost 50 years and won a record total of 409 games.

December – Daniel Radcliffe named Entertainer of the Year

After making Harry Potter fans’ dreams become reality for the past decade in his near perfect portrayal of “the boy who lived,” Entertainment Weekly claimed Daniel Radcliffe their Entertainer of the Year. Daniel Radcliffe recently ended an era after the last Harry Potter film was released in theaters in July.
