We Put The ‘Pro’ in Procrastination!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

Its exam time, and even though you should be studying, you’re not! Instead, like us, you end up spending hours facebook stalking, filling out quizzes on sporcle or reading every blog entry perez has ever written! To help you along this procrastination journey – who are you kidding? You know its going to happen- we’ve compiled a list of all our favorite procrastination websites. Enjoy!

Krystyna LaChance
1) Facebook – Just like everyone else, I like to procrastinate by going on Facebook. The information may not change, but you can’t help checking it every five minutes to avoid doing work. Usually I waste time by reading my newsfeed continuously and constantly refreshing the webpage waiting for something new to pop up… We all do it. But there are also some fun games on Facebook like The Sims or even Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and Family Feud. Trivia is my thing so it’s a pretty great waste of time.
2) StumpleUpon.com – This is the ultimate procrastination site. Basically, you create an account and they ask you what your interests are – for example, quotes, humour, movies, music, books… the list goes on and on. You hit the stumble button and voila… The site automatically finds sites on the internet related to your interests. It’s almost impossible to stop stumbling once you’ve started because the site essentially provides you with other sites to procrastinate on. You waste hours and hours of your life…but it’s totally worth it.

3) Sporcle.com – I love Sporcle! It’s a giant website full of timed quizzes or lists like “Name the 200 most mentioned characters in Harry Potter” or “Name all 50 states”. You get a certain amount of time and you’re supposed to fill in as many of the slots as possible. Quiz categories range from sports to movies to geography to science and really it is an amazing way to procrastinate, but keep your brain working at the same time. It’s a sort of productive unproductivity.
4) Postsecret.com – If you haven’t heard of it, check it out. It only gets updated once a week (on sundays), but it’s still a good site to visit when procrastinating. The site asks people to send in their deepest secrets anonymously in a creative way. It’s hard to stop visiting on Sundays once you’ve started.
5) YouTube – I don’t even need to explain why I love YouTube when procrastinating It’s the best site for that – you start watching one video and end up watching ten. Movie trailers, web series, comedy videos, how-tos… It’s addictive.
6) Twitter – two words: legal stalking. This site lets you rant about anything, follow your favourite celebrities and essentially stalk them legally. It’s perfect. You can even tweet them – for example “Hey @taylorswift13 – your music is a great soundtrack to study to, thanks!” – in hopes that they will respond or retweet… Not that that ever happens! I sound like a total creep LOL but EVERYONE does this on twitter… that and complain about how much work they’re not doing. See, procrastination can be productive.

My all time favourite way to kill time is online shopping, and my first two stops are Ebay and Beyond the Rack.
1) Ebay’s great because you can search for literally anything you want, and it’s great for
designer items as you can refine your search for used or new items depending on your budget, and there’s a tone of selection in both categories.
2) Beyond the Rack is great if you’re in the mood to buy new, and they update their items every 48 hours so there’s always new stuff to browse through. I especially like their selections of watches and perfumes at great discounts. [pagebreak]

2) Stumbleupon– Its the best procrastination search engine tailored to all your needs and interests.
3) FML– Makes your day feel better…cause you know somebody’s always worse off!

1) Facebook and twiter: Facebook to see what’s going with all my friends and twitter so everyone can see what’s going on with me
2) Youtube: just to listen to music
3) Fastpasstv.com: I’m addicted to television

1) Stumbleupon – I can spend hours on this website! Just create an account, choose your interests and the world wide web awaits you! I have come across so many great websites that I would have never known about if it weren’t for this great invention. Be careful though, you really do end up spending hours stumbling!
2) Her Campus – Not only do we have some great articles at our branch, but there are so many other branches that have some amazing articles, this includes the main Her Campus organization. Not only are the articles fun and interesting, but they’re also really informative and helpful.
3) PerezHilton/CocoPerez- You knew this was coming, in a group full of all girls, one of us was bound to mention Perez Hilton! Despite what people say, Perez Hilton is additive, I’ve been addicted for years. Coco Perez is quickly becoming my favorite!

Rida is a fourth year student at the University of Western Ontario and is extremely excited about the opportunity to bring Her Campus to London! She recently changed her major from Finance to English Literature after finally realizing what she wanted to do with her life. Having spent her whole life in the Middle East (Dubai and Saudi Arabia) Rida had no choice but to grow up a shopaholic! Having shifted from the desert to the great ice box that is Canada, she still finds it difficult to adjust to the freezing weather. In her spare time, Rida likes reading, watching way too many shows, stuffed crust pizza and,of course, shopping! Her aspirations are to one day live in Paris and be a writer for Vogue.
