When did you study abroad? My sophomore year, 2010-2011.

Where did you study? London, Great Britain and Limerick, Ireland.

What was the best part of the experience? When I was in Ireland, I developed relationships with people that were just out of this world. As well, I caught the traveling bug. I went to about 15 countries- considering I’d never really left home before, I feel this is quite the accomplishment!

How has it changed your overall college experience? It’s different studying abroad because you have a much bigger variety of people to deal with on a daily basis. I feel that studying abroad has given me a much stronger sense of the world as well as a better idea of how to deal with different kinds of people.

Tell us a little bit about what you’re doing for J-term.

I’m going to Greece, Italy, the UK, and Ireland to write a blog about the EU debt crisis. The entire European Union is on the brink of just totally going over the edge. What I and my two project mates are trying to do is get an inside look at how the entire continent is being effected from different perspectives (Brit Hanavan is focusing on Environmental Sciences and Political Science and Emily Cook is focusing on Biology). Check out our blog for the project- we’ll update it everyday we’re abroad and it’s bound to be full of entertainment- http://mukluktuk.blogspot.com

What are your plans for after graduation?

Right now, I’m hoping to go to grad school. I’m looking at programs abroad and in America but I’m really hoping that I’ll be able to go back to University of Limerick in Ireland to get a M.A. in Peace Studies.

Amber is a recent graduate from Hollins University. She greatly enjoyed her time as HC Hollins Editor-In-Chief and looks forward to seeing what great things new students bring to the branch.
