We’re a week into 2012 but the HC team is ready to share a year’s worth of pop culture predictions with you already! Here’s what we think you’ll be watching, reading and talking about this year!
And as always, if you agree or disagree with us — tell us below in the comments section!
My friends and family are talking about The Hobbit movie coming out, and also the presidential elections will be really important. Adele will be talked about a lot this year too; she has good things going for her and they can only get better.

Hopefully, Lindsay Lohan will pull herself together and save her career. This is definitely her “make it or break it” year.
– Kelsey Mulvey, Contributing Writer, Boston University
This is Andrew Garfield’s year. 2011 was all about Ryan Gosling, but, with Spider Man coming out this summer, Andrew Garfield is going to become the new It Guy.
– Michelle King, Health Editor and Editorial Intern, Emerson College
I guarantee that there will be tons of talk over the ‘end of the world.’ Perhaps a book or movie that uses the apocalypse as it’s premise?
– Elizabeth Schmitt, Campus Correspondent, Mount Holyoke College
I can’t wait for The Hobbit to come out, even though that’s not until December. That gives us nerds more time to prepare!
– Sarah Kahwash, Contributing Writer, Kenyon College

I’m predicting the rise of this soulful New Zealand singer, Kimbra. Ever since Perez Hilton featured her on his site, she has been blowing up the blogosphere, (and my iTunes).
– Kristen Pye, Contributing Writer, McGill University
The Kardashians will (unfortunately) continue to capture way too much of America’s attention. Surprisingly, Kim’s failed marriage didn’t draw as much negative publicity as expected.
And without a doubt, the election will lead to the creation of more hilarious SNL skits and crazy viral YouTube videos.
– Sydney Nolan, Contributing Writer, University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou)
Ellie Goulding will rule the charts and the Kardashians’ youngest sisters (Kendall and Kylie Jenner) will make a splash.
– Tarina Quraishi, Contributing Writer, Harvard University
I predict there will be a Royal baby in 2012, The Hunger Games will trump Twilight, and Bridesmaids will be nominated for an Oscar.
– Hillary Johns, Campus Correspondent, Ohio University
