Chances are you’ve heard countless times that you should not skip breakfast.  Often deemed the most important meal of the day, breakfast will jumpstart your metabolism in the morning, sustain your brainpower in class, and prevent overeating later in the day.  Like breakfast, lunch is also essential for overall health and wellbeing.  Eating lunch ensures that your metabolism continues to function at a high level and helps to prevent overeating at night.

Many Duke students complain that they simply don’t have the time to sit down for a full meal on a weekday.  Between back-to-back classes and extracurricular activities, there just don’t seem to be enough hours in the day.  Luckily, Duke Dining Services have provided students with numerous ways to eat both breakfast and lunch on the go.

Nearly every eatery on campus provides take-out containers, but not every food option works well as a portable meal.  In terms of selection, the Great Hall probably has the most options for breakfast and lunch that can easily be eaten on the go.  From made-to-order omelets and pancakes at breakfast to sushi and stir-fry at lunch, you can pretty much take out everything you would want for a meal at the Great Hall.  Both the Refectory at the Divinity school and the Refectory at the Law school also offer some good, hearty breakfast options that can be eaten on the go, such as their famous baked oatmeal.  Their homemade soups and wraps are also great portable options for lunch.

Of course, if you’re in a real time crunch, you might not have the time to wait in line during peak lunch hours at the more popular eateries.  In this case, your best bet might be to pick up a sandwich or a salad at either Bella Union or the Perk, both of which open before classes start in the morning.  If you’re passing through the Bryan Center, Alpine Atrium also has some premade lunch options that can be purchased early in the day and saved for lunchtime.

So the next time you’re thinking about skipping breakfast or lunch because the clock is ticking, reconsider it.  There are many eateries on campus that provide both quick and appetizing takeout options that take only minutes (if that) to purchase and enjoy on the go.
