Studying abroad this spring? Here’s what to pack to look European Chic.
Take Risks
You’re in Europe! You’ll get away with wearing those items you’ve been dying to wear sans the double takes you’ll get if you were walking through the Arboretum. Take advantage of this opportunity to feed your inner Avant-Garde self! Wear those leather pants, pleated maxi skirt, or your vintage fur jacket fearlessly.
Invest in a Great Jacket
Buy an edgy jacket that will keep you warm throughout the frigid months of January and February. Take advantage of after Christmas sales to get good deals on just about everything you need to stay warm.
Boots
Over the knee, combat, leather, suede, just stay away from Uggs.
Packing
Ah, the dreaded task of packing. The truth in that most airlines will only allow a carry-on and two pieces of luggage without paying extra fees. This may sound like a nightmare to us fashionistas, but don’t panic – this is more than enough space to ensure you’ll step off the plane being a trendy tourist! Make sure to bring lots of tops you can mix and match with jeans and leggings, like blouses that can go from day to night just by adding a chunky necklace.
Black, Black, and more Black
It is a good idea to wear lots of black to blend in, but don’t be afraid to mix in print and color. Add a patterned scarf or a bright bag or clutch to your look.
Shoes
No matter where you go abroad, chances are you’ll be walking… A lot. Invest in some durable, comfortable shoes, like some trendy penny loafers.
Don’t Forget Wardrobe Staples
You’ll want to bring a great leather jacket and a blazer that can go from the classroom during the day to a discoteca in the wee hours of the morning. Don’t forget to bring a variation of leggings. Black, shiny, textured – chances are you’ll be in leggings everyday.
When In Doubt, Put on a Scarf
This one step can take your outfit from drab to chic – or American to European if you will. This is also a great way to add some color, texture, and interest to your look.
