GU Abroad: Tips To Traveling Abroad

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

Be weary of cheap flights.
A 20 € flight may seem too good to be true…and you’re probably right. Although you pay little to nothing on airlines like RyanAir and WizzAir they only allow one bag onto the flight that has to meet a very low weight limit. Be careful of the fine print.

Hostels can either be your best friend or worst enemy. For example, the Czech Inn Hostel in Prague was great. The place was clean, the people were friendly, and they provided tons of discounts for students. But this hostel is a diamond in the rough. I have heard horror stories of dirty sheets, horrendous roommates and bed bugs about most hostels. Make sure to do your research-especially for hostels in Amsterdam. The Red Light district really is as bad as you think.

Size matters. The actual size and weight of your bag can be a whole lot more important than you think. Many times, bags went over the weight limit simply because the bag itself was heavy. Try to find a lightweight bag like the large Longchamp that can fit everything but barely weighs a thing. (http://www.longchamp.com/en/luggage-travel-bag-women-255.html)

Check, check and check again. Make sure to browse multiple airlines before booking a flight. A great website for this is skyscanner.com. This site always has the cheapest flights and lets you compare airlines without a million pop ups. Bookings.com is a great website to look up hotels. You can check by ratings, dates and location easily.
