With Valentine’s Day coming up, I’ve been feeling especially anxious as a newly single girl. The holiday of mushy love letters and romantic dinners is just another reminder of the new relationship-shaped void in my life. However, I’m putting a positive spin on V-Day this year so that single girls like me can have a good time on February 14th. Instead of dreading V-Day, I’ve decided to own it. Here are a few fun things us single
girls can and should do this Valentine’s Day:
- No matter what you decide to do, surround yourself with friends- you should not be alone on Valentine’s Day!
- Go on a girl-date with your best friend. Who better to spend the holiday with than your girlfriends? Dress up, go to dinner, and enjoy a night filled with food, wine, and great conversation.
- Revive the childhood tradition of handing out valentines to your close friends. They’re cute, fun to make, and have candy in them (and who wouldn’t want candy on V-Day?!) They’re also a great way to flirt, through personalized messages and candy hearts.
- Have a girls’ night in. Watch feel-good movies like Mean Girls or Bring It On, make valentines, and eat lots of chocolate. However, do NOT watch The Notebook, for obvious reasons.
- Have a girls’ night out. Get dolled up in your cutest pink or red V-Day outfits and hit the town with your ladies to meet new people and have a blast! Getting dressed up is always fun and who knows- you might meet some equally single guys.
- Throw a singles-only V-Day party. Decorate your place with paper chains, bowls of candy, and valentine card supplies. You and your guests can flirt by writing anonymous valentines to one another.
