When I first came to Millersville the idea of joining a sorority had never even crossed my mind. Looking back a year and a half ago I never would have thought that Greek life would have ended up becoming such a major part of my life. During my spring semester of freshman year I decided I wanted to become involved on campus. I knew I was going to be at Millersville for the next four years and I wanted to have a memorable college experience. Greek life seemed like the perfect option. I could become involved on campus, give back to the community, and at the same time I would meet new people and form some pretty amazing bonds.
I attended sorority recruitment in the spring. Recruitment allowed me to get a glimpse into each sorority and see what each of them were all about. Every sorority had something great to offer and all of the sisters were so nice. When I finally got the opportunity to meet the sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau I instantly knew that that was where I belonged. I pictured myself being a part of their sorority and it seemed like the perfect fit. Finally at the end of recruitment it came time for Bid Day. That day I received and signed my bid from Alpha Sigma Tau. This was an incredibly important day for me. I knew that by signing that piece of paper, I would essentially be choosing the outcome of my entire college experience.

Making the decision to become a sister of Alpha Sigma Tau was by far one of the best decisions I have ever made. Alpha Sigma Tau provided me with the opportunity to become friends with an amazing group of girls. I became incredibly close with my pledge sisters especially. In the short time that I have known them, I consider myself closer with them than with some of my best friends outside of Greek life that I’ve known much longer. It’s a great feeling knowing that those girls are always there for me whenever I need them. We’ve all seen each other at our best and our worst.
Not only has Alpha Sigma Tau provided me with some great friendships, it has also allowed become more involved. The sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau and I take part in many different activities and philanthropies. Every semester we take part in Adopt-a-Highway. We spend a Saturday afternoon cleaning up our highway and helping out the surrounding community. My favorite philanthropy that I’ve had the opportunity to take part in was Project Prom. Last spring we partnered with Alpha Xi Delta and collected over 300 prom dresses and accessories. One Saturday during April we set up all the dresses at McCaskey High School and girls that attended school there and couldn’t afford a dress were able to come in and choose a dress for their prom at no cost. Many girls attended and chose dresses that they all looked beautiful in. It was a great feeling seeing how happy they were for what we had done for them. They were so appreciative of the dresses we collected and the time we took to help make prom memorable for them. Taking part in philanthropies is one of the best parts about being a part of a sorority.
Although there are many stereotypes in regards to people who are a part of Greek life, it’s easy to see it’s much more than that. Being in a sorority opens up a whole new world of great opportunities and many new experiences. Joining Greek life truly is an amazing thing that everyone should experience.Â
