I became a member of Alpha Xi Delta in Fall 2010. The story of how I joined might be one of the more interesting stories because before Alpha Xi Delta, I was completely against Greek Life. I remember when the semester began, I was approached by my new lab partner Trisha about potentially coming out for Greek Life. I believe her exact words were, “Hey, I know you are really busy, but do you think maybe you would be interested in joining a sorority?” Before she could even say what sorority she was in, I gave her a disgusted look and said, “Uhm, no, I’m sorry, I don’t have the time, or the money for that.”

A week later, my roommate Liz received a bid from AXiD. She told me there was a bid party for newly accepted members and asked if I wanted to tag along. I ended up going to the party with her and met all the sisters of Alpha Xi Delta. I came to find that these girls were not the girls I expected out of sorority girls. They were really down to earth, fun, sweet and exciting girls. Each sister had their own unique qualities but the two things that stood out was that they were friendly and fun and I grew to love them.

Later that night, one of the older sisters Emily invited me to lunch the next day to get to know them better. I ended up going to that too. I had my doubts, but she convinced me to at least get to know the girls. They ended up giving me a bid, and despite my dislike for Greek life, I signed my bid and became a sister of Alpha Xi Delta.

Today, I am an extremely active member in my sorority. I have held numerous executive positions. I have served on my chapter’s executive board as Panhellenic Delegate and as Programs Vice President and I have also served as Secretary, Treasurer and President for the Panhellenic Council. Joining Greek Life was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It made me realize that I can handle way more than I ever thought possible and I have met so many amazing people that I now consider life long friends – in my sorority and other organizations. I am so thankful for the women who believed in me and made me realize my full potential.
